I'm a 23 year old Chinese girl living in NY. I've been cooking and baking since I was young and still love to do so. I enjoy working with my hands and being creative so cooking and crafting are my favorite hobbies. While I'm not all knowledgeable about food, I'm always learning and most (keyword, most) of my dishes comes out quite tasty!
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking dishes that show off the natural beauty and flavor of the ingredients. I try to cook healthier by using less oil, etc., but sugar is my weak point. I love making pizza and bread! I like grilling things and baking too.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Chinese new year cake with red bean paste! We make it every year only once a year. We also enjoy my dad's steamed sponge cake but since it uses so many egg yolks we try not to make it so often.
My cooking triumphs
When I was younger it used to be cheesecake but I've made that so often now that it no longer impresses me (even though it's still tasty!) Mango mousse cake, shaped cakes with fondant, tempura, thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings, grilling parties.
My cooking tragedies
Apricot cake (mixing CANNED apricot nectar into cake mix = gross dense metallic tasting cake). I undercooked the thanksgiving turkey last year! Oops.. at least the white meat was moist from brining. I threw a tea party once and the teacups were way too tiny.. especially since I only had tea bags. That was embarrassing. I can't wait to improve upon that!
