About this Cook
I am a single guy who likes to cook. And yes, STRAIGHT MEN CAN COOK. I live by myself, and I try to cook at least twice a week. I don't mean like something from a box, I mean making something from scratch. I like to learn how to cook on my own; what recipes work for my lifestyle (leftovers for work), what recipes reflect my personality (American home cooked meals).
My favorite things to cook
I like down-home cooking. Stuff that sticks to your gut and reminds me of what my Mom cooked when I was a kid. I love making a great dinner for someone. I like making a perfect desert and giving it to someone. Key Lime pie using REAL key limes, Chocolate Biscotti using only TOP cocoa ingredients, etc. Old school comfort food is what I like to cook. Still searching for that ultimate peanut butter cookie... for some reason I can't nail that one down yet.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up in a big family (1 of 6 kids). Mom didn't really have time to make wonderful meals, but I remember things like meatloaf, mac + cheese, baked bread, baked chicken, etc. All of this was made from scratch.
My cooking triumphs
Perfecting mom's apple pie (improved upon it, actually). Making perfect mint chocolate chip mereingues. I can imagine a dish in my head and how to plate it to appear inviting to my guests - I have a knack for pulling that off quite well (presentation is KEY for the girl across the table when you cook for them!!)
My cooking tragedies
One time my pasta primavera spilled alllllll over the kitchen. I almost cried, but remembered I am a man, and opened a beer and cleaned the kitchen instead. I made some maple cookies once that were just cardboard. OH And I nearly set my kitchen on fire (who knew bagel chips toasted up so fast!?)

Banana Banana Bread
Thumbs down. Cooked up super-dry and tasted like cardboard. I'm upset I actually tried this recipe as opposed to my usual Banana bread. PASS.

Oatmeal Crispies I
I liked it. I know it's annoying when people review a recipe and then list all the edits they made, but well, if you can't beat'em, join'em! Here's what I did: I only used 2 cups of regular oats, because I also used 2 cups of excellent semi-sweet chocolate chips. I also only used like maybe a 1/2 cup of walnuts, cause I was out! I also didn't do the refridgerating part, cause I'm LAZY! Anyhow - the result was 4 dozen cookies. They bake up nice and big, they end up CRISPY and EXCELLENT. I love the flavor and the texture. A nice mix of oatmeal and chocolate. So - that's my version!!!!!

Grilled Delmonico Steaks
Tasted ok, but a bit strong, for my liking. I mean, you're talking DELMONICO RIB EYE! They don't NEED marinade! If you're reading this, and you have say, a regular steak in your fridge, then definitely use this recipe. I felt this stuff was far too strong for such a fine piece of meat. My guest quite liked it, but I would have rather cooked the steaks plain, with just a touch of salt. For cheap cuts, use this. For the good stuff, go naked.
