Vegetable Beef Minestrone

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2012
This is a very nice simple soup recipe with good seasonings. My family liked it a lot. It needed more liquid, and I added about a cup of water toward the end of the cooking time. Other than that I made it just as submitted.

Seven Layer Taco Dip

Very good recipe. The cream cheese/sour cream layer makes it stand apart from other similar recipes. I leave off the lettuce so that anything that is left over can be eaten the next day.

Coq au Vin alla Italiana

What a lovely stew! I used the larger 28oz can of tomatoes because that's what I had on hand, but otherwise I was faithful to the recipe. I simmered it longer to reduce the broth, and served it in bowls over oven roasted dutch yellow potatoes. A great fall dinner!

Couscous, Cranberry, and Feta Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2011
I made this recipe as presented. Although my family enjoys couscous, and I make several different couscous salads, the flavors in this one didn't please our palates at all. I think it was the dressing. The balsamic vinaigrette seemed to overpower the whole dish. Maybe it would be better for us with a lighter dressing.

Terrific Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2011
This is really good chili. I didn't change any ingredients. The instructions are a little weird, and I'd do things in a different order next time. Really, two pans to make chili? But the spices were great and my entire family liked it.

Pesto Chicken Florentine

This is an excellent recipe. I was doubtful about the spinach so I stemmed and quartered the spinach leaves and I'm glad I took the time to do that. I made no other changes. The whole family love it.

Momma's Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2011
Although they took longer to cook than the recipe indicated, once done, the potatoes were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Very good.

Pesto Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2011
As always, I rate a recipe as presented. I thought these were great burgers, but I would use less salt next time. I served them on whole wheat hamburger buns, but they needed something else and I couldn't think what. Now that I've read other comments I know that next time I'll serve them with mozzarella cheese, additional pesto, lettuce and tomato.

Moroccan Chicken and Whole Grain Couscous

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
This dish was good but the spices weren't as prominent as I had hoped. It was a bit bland for my tastes. Next time I'll try doubling the spices. Also, the zucchini didn't add anything to the dish. For veggies I would use a container of mire poix.

Mushroom, Leek, Chicken Sausage and Tortellini Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2011
The first time I make a recipe I follow it as presented. As presented I can only give this 3 stars. The chicken sausage was bland and the tortellini began falling apart after the second heating. This is a recipe that is worth playing around with and tweaking ingredients. But it is definitely a soup to be consumed the same day made. Leftovers are sub-par.

Pasta with Hot Sausage Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2011
I made this recipe just as it appears on the site - no changes. After 45 minutes it was still a bit watery so I simmered very slowly for another 30 minutes. Great sauce! Nice flavor and spice. I'll make it again.

Italian Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
I made this recipe just as the author submitted it, except I had to use lots more liquid. About 3-4 cups more than listed in the recipe. My family loved it and my college age daughter asked for the recipe so that she can make it at school. Great basic recipe that will be fun to experiment with.

Black Bean, Corn and Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2011
As with all recipes, I make them the first time without looking at the comments. This is really good chili, and so easy. I'll read the comments before the next time I make it, but at this point I wouldn't change any ingredients. A great recipe. For me, thirty minutes is not long enough to simmer chili. I simmered it for about an hour.

Fiery Pork Skewers

Great recipe. The only thing I changed is that I made a double recipe of marinade. Then I marinated the cubed meat for the afternoon before I skewered and grilled it. The whole family liked these.

Chicken Cacciatore from Sunset's Kitchens

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2010
The first time I made this I needed a quick meal and made the sauce just as instructed. I thought it tasted "thin." Then next time I simmered the sauce much longer, and hour or more, before adding the chicken. It was much better with longer simmering. And of course the day after it was even better, so now I double the recipe and plan leftovers.

Triple Berry Crisp

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2010
I only read a few of the reviews so maybe I missed this comment - this recipe cries out for more fruit! I used 8 cups vs the 4 1/2 cups called for (with corresponding increase in sugar) and it was fantastic. I would not have wanted less fruit in such a big pan. It took longer to cook - close to an hour - but it received rave review after rave review. Truly the best summer dessert I've ever made.

Best Baked Chicken

I made this recipe with no changes. It was very good. It was a tad bit salty for me. I might try 1 tsp garlic salt instead of 2, and maybe 1/2 tsp garlic powder. But I won't change anything else. Yum.

Melissa Newman's Minestrone

From the description I thought I would love this recipe. I like the vegetable ingredients, but the spaghetti sauce overpowered the soup. I'll try it again, and when I do I'll cut back to half spaghetti sauce and half chicken broth.

Chicken Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2010
I read reviews before I made this recipe because I was skeptical about the mayonnaise. I was convinced to try it by the great reviews. I used only about 1/2 cup mayonnaise because that's what was in my jar. The cooked quiche had a wonderful creamy texture, but I tasted the mayonnaise. Not for me.

Southwestern Pasta Salad

This is the spiciest pasta salad I've ever made. Over the four to five days it took us to eat all of it the flavors just got better. This is for people who like spicy! We do and I'll definitely make this again soon.
