Turkey Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2008
We really liked this. After reading the other reviews I wish I would have added some worchestire sauce to spice it up a bit but it was still good. I will make it again. This served 3 adults and we all had seconds.

Curried Coconut Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
This was really good as is but next time I will add a little less sugar because at first it was a little overpowering. After simmering for a whle it really came out delicious. The only thing I had to change was I only had a can of diced tomato and no tomato sauce. because of the excess sugar taste I decided to add a couple of spoons of plain marinara sauce (which is basically tomato sauce with a little olive oil anyway) I had so much left over I threw in a can of chick pease to the left overs and ate some for lunch the next day it was delicious! I froze the rest and can get at least another 2 meals out of it!

Actually Delicious Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2008
These were very good. I am giving it 4 stars because I made two changes. Instead of the egg I used flax seed mixed with water and because of that I added about 1/4 cup of bread crumbs because the mixture was very moist. I also sprinkled a little bit of garlic powder in there. There were really moist and since we are trying to lower our carbs we ate them without buns and a little bar b que sauce. I will make these again! Thanks for the recipe.

Colorful Fried Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2008
yes!!!! this is what fried rice should taste like. The most important thing is to use cold rice! I have tried recipe after recipe and they are always gross because I have never used cold rice. The only changes I made was to add some extra veggies (steamed broccoli and snow peas instead of frozen peas) and I left out the parsley caus I am not a huge fan. I added a dash of ginger and a dash of seaseme oil as well. This recipe is very versatile and that's part of the point of fried rice, to get rid of the left overs in your fridge. I can imagine adding ham or chicken to this and it would be delicious as well. Thanks for the great recipe!

Easy Curry Couscous

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2008
I really liked this except I may have put a bit too much curry powder in it because it had a slight bitter aftertaste that I am not used to with couscous. I did add some carrots and didn't have any almonds or cilantro so maybe if I had these I wouldn't have had that slight bitter aftertaste. I didn't realize how much this made and I am going to have a lot of left overs. I also cut down the oil by about half. This was a great low cal easy recipe for the hot summer months!

Peanut Noodles

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2008
I did like this but it seemed like something was missing. I liked the fact there was no coconut milk in this because this dish is already high in calories. I sauted some chicken in garlic and added that to the sauce and then tossed it with the noodles. I will make this again and play with it a little to get the ratios just right to our taste, but it was a good start! Thanks for the recipe!

Lemon Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: May 16, 2008
The flavour of this was good but the chicken was not as tender as I expected. I didn't grill it, I ust browned it in the frying pan so maybe that was the problem. thanks for the recipe.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: May 12, 2008
I have never made home made pizza crust before so I had no clue what I was doing but apparently this recipe is fool proof. I used a jelly roll pan with the intent of splitting this into two crusts but there wasn't really enough so I ended up with one very thick crust pizza. It was soft and chewy and really delicious. Next time though I will use two round pans and split it in two or use a large size jelly roll pan. I baked it for a few moments as suggested and then put the toppings on and baked for another few minutes. I then put the cheese on and baked until the cheese was golden brown and bubbly. I was worried that it wouldn't be fully cooked because it was so thick but it was cooked perfectly. thanks for the recipe!

T's Sweet Potato Fries

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2008
I am giving this 4 stars because I skipped the pre cooking step and didn't use the lemon pepper. I love sweet potato fries and I make them all the time because of this recipe. The secret is to make sure they are all cut fairly evenly and they are spaced out on the pan. If they are crowded too close together they will not cook properly. Also always make sure to turn them at least once or they will get burned on one side. Regular potatoes you don't have to be so careful but sweet potatoes you do for some reason.

Grilled Soy-Sesame Asparagus

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2008
This was an amazing and different way to eat asparagus. I made this with soy-ginger salmon (martha stewart everyday food recipe) and it was the perfect match. Served with some wild rice pilaf and this is a meal I will make again and again. I don't have an indoor grill so I just put it under the broiler for a few minutes they turned out perfect. I was actually thinking that you could double the sauce for this and throw it in with the salmon in a foil packet and cook it would be awesome as well. I am going to try that next week. Thank you so much for the recipe! Ps I used the darker toasted seaseme oil and I had no problems with something tasting funny. I only tasted awesome

Black Bean Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2008
Love this recipe! You can definitely tweak it to your preferences. I usually don't use the italian dressing and just use a little olive oil, salt, lime and chili powder. I also usually skip the green pepper (hubby isn't a fan) and the left overs are great heated up in a taco shell!

Sweet, Sticky and Spicy Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2008
I loved this so much but I am only giving it 4 stars because I did make a couple of changes based on other reviews. I used 4 tablespoons of honey, 3 large cloves of fresh garlic, hot pepper flakes (I didn't have hot sauce) and I added a dash of seaseme oil. I DID NOT salt the chicken, I only used pepper and did not find it too salty as others have mentioned. I also found that it needed to really boil to thicken it up and even then I had to add a little cornstarch. I only used two chicken breasts so that may have been part of the reason why. I then threw in some baby corn, red pepper, and carrots that I had already stir fried. It was awesome! I served this with brown rice and it was all gone!

Ham 'n' Brie Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2008
This was pretty good. I ended up with my own take on it I guess because I used a hearty multi grain bread instead of an english muffin and it turned out great! I also used helmans olive oil mayo and some djion with horseradish and omitted the white wine vinegar. Mixing the two together worked great though. This was a delicious sandwich that I would make again next time I have some brie in the house.

Mexican Rice III

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2006
We loved this. The flavour was fantastic. I made it exactly as stated except I followed a few recipes suggestions and sauted the green peppers, onion, and garlic at the same time as the rice. This was so perfect and nicely spiced for a side dish. It was also great in burritos.

Oh my god this was so good. I followed the exact recipe except I used bottled lime juice. I loved the cilantro flavour, and gave it a kick of freshness. I will make this again and again.

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2006
I agree with the other reviewers that some of the ratios are off. I made small batches and halfed the recipe because I was using a lot of different colours. I added a tablespoon of milk, but halfed all the other ingredients and it was the perfect consistancy for piping. To make it more spreadable I added a little more milk and corn syrup. The colours were amazing, and the icing dried really nice and shiny. I will use this again

Quinoa Tabbouleh

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2006
yum! It's been extremely hot here, and I needed something that was light and didn't require a lot of stove time. This was perfect. I didn't have quinoa, so I used couscous instead. It worked perfectly. I had to makes some subsitutions just because of what I had on hand (I didn't have any parsley, and I forgot to buy olive oil last time I was at the store so I used sunflower oil instead), it was still delicious. This one is a keeper! Edit: okie I tried it with the olive oil, and the parsley and it was awesome! A have a huge bowl of this that I am going to eat for days.
