About this Cook
I am a married working mom of two great kids. I also work with special education kids. I love to cook with them and to teach them how to cook.
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new recipes. Allrecipes is the best site on the internet. I love to cook "theme" meals. I pick a holiday, search it on the internet and make it with my family or my students.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom taught me how to cook. I started cooking very young. I started off baking cookies and worked into making dinners. Family tradition recipes include, "Chicken Divan", "Apple Confections", "Peanut Butter Blossoms" and many more. I inherited my love for cooking from my mom, she loves to collect cookbooks and magazine clipped recipes.
My cooking triumphs
Recently I had the opportunity to cook Easter dinner for the church choir. There were 40+ people. The main dish was from allrecipes, called "Merwin's Chicken Marsala". I served it with Garlic Roasted Smashed Potatoes, roasted green beans, garlic bread and salad. I also made a Raspberry Chocolate Cake and a family favorite Berry Supreme. It went so well, one woman asked me to come to her home and cook for her. I have recently been asked to cater my best friends' wedding. We'll see.
My cooking tragedies
I guess my family remembers my homemade biscuits the most. I used baking soda instead of baking powder. They tasted like baking soda toothpaste. Yucky! I am famous for not setting times and burning Garlic bread and cookies.

Rock Candy
I have tried this recipe (and several others) with not much success. I'm sure the concept is there and maybe it's just me but I couldn't get it to work. I didn't have a problem with mold, just ants. They were after the sugar big time! I gave this a 3 cuz' I'm not sure if it's me or the recipe. Sorry.

Chinese Restaurant Almond Cookies
These cookies turn out even better than the Chinese restaurant! Listen to the author, you MUST use Lard (also known as manteca) if you want them to turn out the same as the restaurant cookies. I also used extra almond extract (2 tsp.) since I love the flavor.

Cake Balls
Made these for a work potluck and they were a HIT! To make the dipping process easier, I shaped the balls on a lollipop stick and then dipped them. For a cute and easy presentation, I stuck them in a basket with styrofoam. Oh, and I called them "Cake Pops" because it just sounded more appetizing. Lol!
