Gramma's Apple Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2002
Less bowls/steps = I sliced the apples very thin, and put them in a medium skillet with the raisins with a quarter stick of butter to cook them a bit. It plumps the raisins and makes the apples more tender. Then I drained the apple/raisins in a strainer over the baking dish, which greased it nicely, paper-toweling off the excess. Added the warm apple/raisins tothe bread in a bowl, stirred well and dumped into the dish. Then, in the same skillet I poured the milk, brown sugar, butter, vanilla (I used a whole teaspoon) eggs, and I added apple pie spice (could use pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, allspice, any of those) to the cinnamon, and just stirred it all together over medium low heat until the butter melts as directed and pour it over the bread mix in the dish and voila! I baked it nice and long, til it was 'set' and deep golden brown on top. Wonderful wonderful stuff. If I had had some wine or brandy to soak the raisins in.. I would have. YUM.

Old Time Soft Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2002
These were definitely easy to make. I was looking for soft, but chewy kinda, and these are cakelike puffy. (I should have looked at the reviews but I was in a hurry.) My husband loved them, so I'll make them for him, it's just not my favorite.

Oatmeal Sugar Cookies

Mmmmm just pulled these out of the oven, they are Execellent. I added a touch of nutmeg as well. I definitely think the secret is not in overcooking. Mine are just golden around the edges with squigly crack lines running across the top, slightly crispy, but oh so chewy soft once you bite in. A keeper!

Bobbie's Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2002
I liked another recipe in the oatmeal section better, but I didn't have the butter shortening it called for as well as butter, so I thought I would just use this as the base and only put in the raisins. I did add some spice as another reviewer did. At first I was disappointed because they turned out flat. But! they were delicious. So the next batch I did not grease the sheet, and this time they turned out perfect, nice cookies. So..if your pan doesn't stick bad, I wouldn't grease it. Unless you like the flat style. ;) Thanks for a great recipe!

Mom's Ginger Snaps

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2002
These were just what I was looking for. They puffed up nice, cracked along the top, and with that sugar coating, look absolutely as fantastic as they taste. Lightly crisp outside, soft, chewy inside. Thank you so much! ps, thanks to the other viewers, I did double the ginger(fresh grated, such a difference) and cloves.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2002
This is very close to a recipe my mom made often, the only difference being she added some mustard(dry spice works nice) and worchestershire to the brown sugar/ketchup mixture. (We put it on top too.) That might add some zing for those that found this recipe a lil bit too sweet. I also add garlic to the meat as another reader did, as I'm a Garlic-holic myself. ;)

Butter Cream Frosting II

Reviewed: May 28, 2002
Store bought is easy, and I'm sure I'll still buy my share, but this is really the way to go when you want goodness. It's far above the almost too sweet store bought. I added cocoa and made a small adjustment in that I used evaporated milk for richness. (I only had skim milk and I wasn't looking to cut calories on this one.) Excellent, thank you!

Cherry Crunch

Reviewed: May 28, 2002
So easy! So Good! I will definitely use it with other pie fillings as a great and fast way for that sweet tooth need. After reading several reviews (thank you for your comments) I added more butter, brown sugar and cooked it longer as well. This made a more moist, yet still crispy dessert so I believe. Excellent, thanks!

Carnation® Swedish Meatballs

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2002
Family and friends were driven mad by the wonderful aroma through the house. I used butter instead of oil too, added mushrooms to the sauce and served with sliced steamed carrots. Got rave reviews. The combination of nutmeg, garlic and papper is delicate, yet intrigueing. Simply pleasing. This is a permanent meatball recipe now. Thank you very much!

Beefy Spanish Rice

Family called this 'sweet', but I believe they mean it in a sweet fresh 'vegetable' way. Corn does sweeten it, and I added diced tomatoes so that probably did as well. Very good flavor all in all, and I will definitely be cooking it again, as they requested it!

I used frozen peas and carrots mix, diced up a can of already cooked potatoes (they are already cooled and just the right firmness) along with some fresh mushrooms. I found this to be simple and fast, and just the best flavor. Definitely a keeper!

I Love this recipe! They are indeed addicting. Once again I didn't have butter flavored shortening, but this time I remembered I had butter flavoring in the spice cabinet, and mixed it with the crisco. It really did add something to it. YUM!

Turtle Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2001
These are good, but just a touch too dry for my families taste. Ice cream over it solves that however. ;) Also, just a tip for people who are new to cooking, cream the sugar and butter first before adding the cocoa and such. Otherwise you just work too hard getting the butter to fully blend.

Chicken With Mushrooms

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2001
Well worth the gooey fingers you get when dredging! This is the second time this week I've made this so I had to come rate it. The first time I made exactly to the recipe and it was great, ate it with egg noodles. Second time I used muenster cheese, poured the juices from the pan into the skillet I browned the chicken in, added white wine, garlic and onions and some corn starch for a thicker sauce, and it was awesome too! Great idea for two much used staples in our house. Thanks!
