About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. My husband says I love to bake too much, but bought me a kitchen aid mixer for my birthday this year!;o)
My favorite family cooking traditions
During my teenage years my mom decided that eating home made apple and pumpkin pie after a huge holiday meal was too much. So now every year we have it for BREAKFAST instead!
My cooking triumphs
Can't think of one in particular, but I have a friend who has taught my 3 year old twin daughters to say, "apple pie, apple pie" whenever his name is mentioned ;o)He and my hubby would say my apple pie is a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
I had a friend over for lunch (don't remember what I made) but I accidently placed a beautiful ceramic tart dish on top of the stove (electric, I hate electric) not realizing I had turned the wrong burner on. The dish practically exploded in the kitchen. Scared the heck out of us. Luckily we were not in the kitchen but sitting at the dining table.

Bread Pudding I
I had never made bread pudding before. I modified this recipe a little: used evaporated milk, and cinnamon raisin bread. I didn't have nutmeg so I skipped that. It was great. Since then I have also skipped heating the milk, just mixing all the egg, milk, sugar etc together and pouring over the bread. Increase the baking time to 40 minutes. Turned out just as good. Thanks for this recipe.

Jalapeno Popper Wontons
I basically just used the idea of this recipe and the out come was delightful. I seeded and chopped a serrano chili with some red onion and cooked over medium heat with a little olive oil until tender. Removed from heat and added 4 oz cream cheese and about 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil, a little salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Fried in wantons...MMmmmm. My hubby and I ate them all as they came out of the pan. I forgot to dip in the chili sauce. Will use it next time.

Apple Muffins
After reading other reviews I decided to change a few things with this recipe. I used whole wheat flour, added 4 packets of splenda (in addition to the 1/4 cup sugar) doubled the cinnamon, added 1/4 tsp ground cloves, added 1/4 tsp baking soda, used oil instead of butter, added 1/2 cup extra apple and some lemon zest. They turned out great with my changes; fluffy with good taste.
