I am a short, adorable redhead with a refined palate and a passion for cooking. My husband and I raise horses and have 4 Sons ranging in age from 32 to 20 yrs. old, all of which are plate-cleaners with big appetites for Mom's cooking! We have also been blessed with [to date] 10 Grandchildren! When I was first married, I had no clue about how to cook but loved to eat good food. From there I started getting recipe books and magazines to learn. I also watched ALOT of cooking shows to learn techniques and tips. Now I love to teach my Grandchildren the joy of spending time together in the kitchen creating a great meal for others to enjoy; they love to help me cook and are convinced that Grandma can make anything and anything she cooks is good!
My favorite things to cook
My own "inventions"... like my special burrito meat with hamburger meat, (I have to make it in batches of 10 to 15 pounds at a time 'cuz my boys would eat it in one sitting if I only make 5 pounds!) I also have 1 son who never liked chicken much but loves my chicken & rice enough to take leftovers to work for lunch. I LOVE to try new things!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Using whatever is in the fridge and pantry to make something the boys will eat, such as my "scrambled mess" that happened one day for breakfast when there was some leftover burrito meat, eggs, ham, cheese, salsa & a few other things...whatever there was. Also, I love to go to restaurants and try different things, then I come home and make it for my family. I have been blessed with a sensitive and talented palate for tasting what's in dishes so that I can recreate them.
My cooking triumphs
Being lucky enough to find ways to keep my 4 boys happy and well fed, (& their families!) My husband supports me, & loves to eat my cooking so he has allowed me to buy appliances & cookware, etc. to continue my passion. He loves to invite company over so that I will invent new things. He is also convinced that if someone ate my seafood they would never go back to Red Lobster since I have recreated many of their dishes; I like to go out & have someone else cook for me sometimes!!
My cooking tragedies
Well, obviously a few of my "inventions" didn't come out the way they should. Adding salt to a dish that already had ingredients with salt in them before I tasted it. My family is forgiving but honest, if something doesn't turn out they will tell me but it's cuz they love me!
