About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I make a mean teriyaki salmon using homemade teriyaki sauce. I love cooking with wine and liqueur.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking tradition is when my family and I take a trip up to the Sierra Nevada mountains in California and we pick wild gooseberries and elderberries. It's a lot of work, but we get to combine berry picking with 4-wheeling. After we've got all the berries we want we make homemade jelly. In my humble unbiased opinion, this jelly far surpasses any commercial jelly I've ever tasted.
My cooking triumphs
I think my greatest triumph is when I get all my ducks in a row when preparing for a future meal. So, for instance, I recently went on a camping trip. I knew I couldn't cook everything before I got there, but I could cook the BBQ sauce and the marinade for the potato salad in advance. I so often leave things until the last minute, so for me, to have prepared the sauce and marinade in advance and one time was a great triumph for me.
My cooking tragedies
When I was a little girl, I made brownies. I ran out of sugar and my mom had told me what things I could use as substitutes for sugar. I couldn't remember what she had told me, so when I went looking through the pantry, I grabbed the next thing that looked the most like sugar. Only it was salt. So, I made a recipe of brownies that were tougher than granite. We had to soak the brownies for a few days to get it out of the dish!!

Spaghetti Sauce
Tried this recipe with pasta and meatballs. I think it could use more tomatoes and/or tomato sauce and much less oregano. The oregano dominated the flavor of the dish even though there were bold flavored meatballs in the dish. I won't likely make this sauce again, sorry.
