Garlicky Green Beans with Mushrooms

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2009
I loved this dish and will make it all the time now instead of plain old BORING green beans! I steamed the beans and added a little olive oil to the mushrooms. Served at a dinner party and got many compliments. Thanks :)

Garlic Chicken Fried Chicken

good (3.5 stars), nothing extraordinary. I made a gravy to put over the chicken. I'm glad I did because otherwise the chicken would have been too bland for our liking--we like big, bold flavours. Overall a basic recipe that can be easily altered to suit your family's taste.

Griddle Style Philly Steak Sandwiches

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
Had a craving and these hit the spot. After the frying stage I piled everything on fresh hoagies, topped with massive amounts of provolone and stuck them under the broiler for a few minutes (just a preference). The kiddies, who had no idea what a "Philly Steak Sandwich" was are now hooked! With all that grease and cheese how could they not! lol Oh BTW, I didn't have mushrooms but didn't miss them either :)

Quick and Easy Yorkshire Pudding

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2009
Yum! Honestly I always buy the little dry packet, just add water kind(!) In the midst of preparing dinner I realized I didn't have any so once again Allrecipes saved the day! lol. I glanced quicly at the recipe and then raced off to make it, forgetting how much butter to use. Anyway I think I ended up putting more butter than called for in each muffin cup but the end result was YUMMY. I would suggest using at least 1 tsp of butter if not more in each mufrfin cup. The butter gives them a nice crunchy texture on the outside and a rich, buttery flavour (I'm not really a fan of cooking them in the drippings, forget tradition)! This is a keeper!

Pretty good, will make again. A note to Heidi--all grills are different so keep an eye on your chicken next time. I think your rating is a little unfair:(

My crew loved this and it was super easy to make. Used cream of celery and cream of chicken soups. My husband is still going on about how good it was. Thank you :)

Scotcharoos

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2009
Yummy! Needs more 'scotch' taste though. next time would probably adjust to 3/4 c. butterscotch chips and 1/2 c. choc chips. took the advice of others and cooked just until started to boil and then removed from heat.

My kind of meal--easy and tasty! I even threw the meat in frozen and just went to work. My husband was so skeptical but admitted that it was really good. A keeper for sure :)

Home-Style Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2007
Excellent! Finally, scalloped potatoes with flavour (although i did add a good dose of seasoning salt and cheese) Otherwise cooked as per recipe. They took forever to cook though (90 mins +)and i had cut my slices close to paper-thin too. That's the only reason for the 4 stars. Really delicious, and i will use from now on!!

Chinese Chicken Fried Rice I

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2007
A nice change from the usual boring rice we eat! I think it's nearly impossible to make it exactly like the take-out stuff but this was still very good and actually had a light and healthy taste. You could really taste all those veggies and both kids had second helpings. A make-again recipe for sure.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2007
Definitely 5 star worthy. The sauce was exquisite even though I had to substitute white vinegar for cider. Served with "Chinese Fried Rice I" As an after thought I also made another half batch of the sauce to serve with the chicken and rice. The whole family loved this chicken. The sauce would also be delicious with pork tenderloin.

Spicy Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2007
I rarely give bad reviews but feel i need to here :( After reviewing i decided to use more lime juice, ended up using the zest and juice of 2 limes plus some more (2 tbsp) bottled lime juice. Used about 2 tsp hot pepper flakes, 3 cloves garlic AND marinated for 8 hours. Spicy? yes that part was fine but i had absolutely no taste of lime..maybe a slight hint but not at all what i was hoping for. Very plain tasting. I ended up dipping my chicken in my salad dressing just for some flavour. 6 chicken breasts aren't that cheap so i would definintely not make this again.

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2007
Made the pineapple upside down cake. Please... with all that ooey gooey sweetness how can a cake be bad?? In all honesty though the yellow cake alone was not all that great, maybe 3.5 stars. The taste was good but it was more like a pound cake or doughnut-like texture. Not at all like the fluffy boxed version. Like i said, the pineapple is what made this cake and i think for the dollar or two it costs for a box, i'd probably just go with that next time but i'd definitely follow the pineapple variation, cuz it was GOOD!

Eggplant Parmesan II

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2007
Fan-freakin-tastic! Hands down definitely one of the better recipes on this site. I only added some fresh garlic and fresh parsley...oh always good to salt/drain the eggplant beforehand too. My anti-veggie 5 year old thought it was chicken parm and ate every last bite!! Unfortunately my 10 yo is wiser to this and wouldn't try it...i'll make this again for sure, so good :D

Veggie Meatball Medley

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2007
We really enjoyed this. I used some fresh broccoli and fresh garlic along with frozen beans/carrots medley. I found that it was easier to fry the meatballs, then drain, then fry the veggies, add the soup and then simmer the meatballs. I had to use 2 cans of soup and a little extra soya but I must say that the sauce was really yummy. Not at all like the usual mushroom soup sauce but more like a really rich gravy. My husband thought it would have been better with steak and I don't disagree (hence the 4 stars) but the meatballs were good too. I'll make this again for sure with steak.

Cream of Fresh Asparagus Soup II

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2007
Really Good, just what i was looking for after having asparagus soup at a fancy winery restaurant. This is very comparable. The only dilemma was that i didn't have sour cream but i tried a little plain yogurt and thought it tasted pretty good. I'm surprised, usually when i make these type of cream soups they're too bland, but this was right on the money. Try it :D

Taco Salad II

Reviewed: May 29, 2007
mmmm I loved this just the way it was, even though I normally don't care for French dressing. I tried a little in the salad and was pleasantly surprised. Don't mix ahead of time...the best part of the salad is the 'CrUnCh' from the tortilla chips-so why you would want soggy lettuce and chips (from sitting overnight) is perplexng to me...and many other reviewers. Nonetheless, this salad is A+ :D
