About this Cook
My husband and I live out on a beautiful 60 acre place in Wills Point, Texas. We've just recently built a house there and we raise Texas Longhorns. We have a small garden where I raise some of our favorite veggies. There is always something that needs to be done. We never reach a point where we are "finished", we just reach a point where we have "give out" for the day. Life is good!
My favorite things to cook
I can't really say that I have a favorite thing to cook. It may be one thing today and something else tomorrow. I know I can't bake bread to save my life so I guess I can rule that out. I just know I love good food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite tradition has become Thanksgiving at our house. We'll usually have 25-30 family members, give or take a few. Everyone brings a favorite dish. The recipe exchange is tremendous! My husband and I are usually in charge of the meat dishes. We do it all over again at Christmas. That's when we do the "Chinese" gift exchange too. We've adapted the rules to the way we like to do it, but it is loads of fun! The gifts have recently started including homemade gift baskets. Some have been spectacular!!
My cooking triumphs
I guess my biggest triumph was cooking a complete Thanksgiving dinner at the age of 14. My mother wound up having to work on Thanksgiving day that year and asked me to handle it. I must have had her on the phone every 5 minutes. She bragged on me a lot after doing that. I was very nervous but it turned out great. Maybe that's what lead me to have such an interest in cooking. She and my grandmother were a huge influence in that department.
My cooking tragedies
Tragedies? There have been a few. I guess the one that sticks out the most is when I was cooking a pork chop and scalloped potato dish that is one of my most favorite dishes. At the end of the cook time, I pulled this beautiful dish out of the oven and set it on top of a cooking surface that I didn't realize was still on. Within a couple of minutes that pyrex dish exploded!! There were bits of pork chop and bits of potatos everywhere!! They were stuck on the ceiling, walls, windows, it was everywhere. We ended up with soup and sandwiches that night. No one said a word. We look back often and laugh about that night.

Pork Chops with Blue Cheese Gravy
REally good. My 2 1/2 year old grandson ate a plate full and wanted more!! I followed the recipe but just increased (?) the blue cheese, I used about 2 palm fulls, which i am sure is a bit more than 2 oz. Served with boiled red potato and aparagus.DH drizzel the sauce over everything. Thank you. Will definately make again. I would not change anything.

Hash Brown Ham Quiche
This was very good. But, I think the next time I make it I will use less hash browns for the pan that I have. Four cups was a bit too thick for my liking in a deep 9" pie plate. Also, I know my oven cooks a bit slow but I had to cook this an extra 12 minutes or so. Still, over all, a very good recipe. I got good reviews when I served it. Thank you for posting.

Savory Tater Tot Casserole
This wasn't bad. I followed the instructions except for adding some salt and pepper to the meat and subbing the mixed veggis for a boccoli/cauliflower mix that I had onhand. It was a little bland. Next time I make it I will definately play with the seasoning some more.
