About this Cook
Mom to four kids - almost all teenagers!
My favorite things to cook
Anything and love a challenge
My favorite family cooking traditions
Going out for Chinese food on holidays - no really - we all got up so early then slept the day away and it was too late to cook the ham so we went out for Buffet. It was great. We have only done it twice but we call it our "tradition"
My cooking triumphs
Trying new recipes with no qualms...I tell my musical kids that it is like sight reading music - except my mixer is my back up.
My cooking tragedies
Oh for the first five years of marraige I could not make rice. Finally having a baby and she loved it - I had to master it. Now I cook all kinds of grains and even grind my own flour. I also taught myself to become a successful bread baker. I couldnt find a rustic bread I wanted years ago so I learned. Then my carboholic daughter was eating only bread. In my quest for low carb bread that was good tasting and inexpensive I started grinding flour myself and making wonderful light loaves of bread. Made a lot of patio stones before the beautiful loaves appeared!

Turkey Bow Tie Skillet
This dish looked very pretty but turned out very bland even though I used italian seasoned turkey. I doubled the chili powder and added more garlic. The amount of sauce was poor for a skillet dish.

Chicken Riggies II
This was a huge hit at our house. Usually I have a 50% rate on anything guaranteed since 1/2 of my family will eat anything. This had a 100% which is not unheard of but more exclusive. I did not put in the sherry (we didnt have any on hand). I also used penne pasta the first time. Next I used rigatoni. The kids actually prefer penne so I will use that from now on. I saw other recipes that had actual alfreo sauce that was used in place of the cream. We dont like bottle alfredo sauce and my homemade is so rich this was not something we wanted to mix - so this recipe was perfect. We actually had company the third time I made this so I doubled it. They would have left with leftovers had there been any but they did leave with the recipe in hand. My kids will all fight over the leftovers on this recipe for sure.

Lemon Poppy Seed Biscotti
The dough was not a dough. I had to add two more eggs to get it to stick together. Other biscotti recipes are not a real "doughy" dough but this one just didn't form a ball at all. I added the extra egg and a few tablespoons of water.
