Fabulous French Loaves

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2007
This recipe really is fabulous! Love the taste, texture, aroma, crust--everything! I subbed honey for the sugar and EVOO for the vegetable oil, and I didn't use the egg wash or sesame seeds. Great, easy recipe!

Cream Filled Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2007
These was a real hit at my husband's office, where I took them for his birthday celebration. I piped it from the top, as suggested by other reviewers, and frosted with a simple cocoa, powdered sugar, butter & milk frosting. The cake was good by itself, but the cream filling is what makes it exceptional. This is a BIG winner in my book!

Honey Bun Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2007
This was very good, considering there is no oil in the recipe. I liked that it only used egg whites, and the streusel layer really added flavor. I made it in a bundt pan, so it took a bit longer to bake. I think it would be better in the 9 X 13 pan. Good recipe!

Vanilla Ice Cream V

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2007
Very good homemade flavor--we really enjoyed this. I used half-and-half and one percent milk in place of the cream. I made the recipe for 16 servings, and it ended up overflowing my Cuisinart, so I'll have to adjust the recipe further. Good summertime treat!

Caribbean-Spiced Roast Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2007
This was really different, and I'm glad I tried it. I marinated 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, so the flavor was a little strong. I baked at 400 for about 20-30 minutes, then shredded the chicken for chicken salad. I discovered I'm not fond of the rum/cinnamon flavor in chicken; however, when mixed with leftover Ranch Dressing II from this website, the chicken was elevated to a very flavorful chicken dish. It definitely rates a try by following the recipe & roasting a whole chicken.

Ranch Dressing II

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2007
My husband said this tasted like restaurant dressing. I used fresh chives and dill, and threw in some fresh rosemary too. Subbed FF mayo for half the mayonnaise and light sour cream. I added milk till it was the right consistency for us. I think this will become a versatile recipe for us--I have no desire to buy commercial dressing again!

Coconut Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2007
Wow this ice cream is really delicious and refreshing. The flavor is not overwhelming, even though I added 1/2 teaspoon coconut extract and 1 teaspoon vanilla. I omitted the coconut but toasted some to sprinkle on top. I used 1% milk and half-and-half instead of cream. I would like to try it with pineapple to make pina colada ice cream. Very good!

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies III

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2007
I was amazed at how good these cookies are--peanut butter and oats are a very good combo. I couldn't talk my husband into letting me make sandwich cookies out of these (they are delicious on their own), but I had some left-over powdered sugar icing and made just one for myself, and it was fantastic. Great chewy texture and very addictive!

Honey Peanut Granola

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2007
Great granola! I normally make Almond Maple Granola from this website, but I was in the mood for something different. Thanks to JediCook's suggestion of adding cinnamon--it really does taste like an oatmeal cookie. My tweaks were to use old-fashioned oats, only 1/4 cup honey & brown sugar, 3 tbls oil, 1/4 tsp salt, and I subbed sliced almonds for the peanuts. I really love it and will make again.

Sauteed Grouse with Peach-Balsamic Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2007
With apologies to MommyFromSeattle, I only made the sauce and not the grouse, but the sauce is excellent! I have not eaten grouse, but I know this would make a superb complement to pheasant. Since I was not using the sauce to cook grouse, I reduced it till it was syrupy, then drizzled it over risotto cakes from another website. I used apricot preserves, but I can't wait to try it with peach--it was so good!

Spring Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2007
This salad is close to the 5-cup salad I normally make, but the addition of toasted coconut made it much better! I used Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream, added a tablespoon of honey, mixed the brown sugar in with the fruit, used fresh pineapple, and subbed toasted pecans for the walnuts. Sprinkled vanilla sugar over the top, and we loved it! Thanks for sharing, Karla.

That Good Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2007
What a beautiful salad! I like the fact that it was not overloaded with salt, and I agree with previous reviewers that it is light and would go with anything. The lemon juice, oil & garlic dressing is light and not highly seasoned like commercial dressings, and it allows the wonderful combo of ingredients to meld without overwhelming any of the flavor. I only had provolone, but I think the swiss would be better, and the touch of toasted almonds made it very special. I halved the recipe for 3 of us, and still had leftovers. I can foresee adding a touch of honey to the dressing, grilled chicken as suggested by isabelleaucoin, green onions, or feta cheese--the possibilities are endless. However, this salad is delicious exactly as written!

Easy French Dip Sandwiches

These were so good and so easy! I had leftover roast beef and beef broth in the freezer, homemade rosemary bread, and provolone. I added a little rosemary to the broth, and it was perfect. My family loved it! Thanks for a great idea, writergirl.

Loved the flavor and the texture. I thought they were a little salty and will use all butter and leave out the salt next time. I used 1 teaspoon lemon extract and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. thanks for sharing, Dollie!

Never Fail Biscuits

Reviewed: May 31, 2007
As soon as my husband took a bite, he announced "these biscuits are great", and they are! I am happy to add my 5 star rating to the pack. My only disappointment was that they didn't rise as high as I thought they would, but they were still light and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Best luck I've had with any biscuit recipe. I like the addition of sugar--I think it tones down the baking powder flavor. Great recipe!

Easy Sausage Strata

Reviewed: May 31, 2007
My hubby raved about this! For such a simple dish, it really is tasty. Here are the only changes I made: I only had half pound of sausage, and frankly, it was plenty; added 3 pieces of cooked & crumbled bacon; did not add the salt--there was plenty in the cheese & the sausage; like brwneyedchef, I sauteed the sausage with some onion; finally, I sprinkled dill weed over the top before refrigerating. I only had 6 hours to refrigerate, but it worked just fine. Very, very good recipe and one I will certainly use again, especially for overnight guests.

Spicy Corn Dip

Reviewed: May 28, 2007
Delicious dip--the sweetness and crunch of the corn is so good with the tang of the sour cream, mayo, and cheese. Although this was good just as written, we added a few cherry tomatoes and a bit of diced red & green peppers. I used light sour cream and fat-free mayonnaise; however, we ate it with full-fat Fritos! I love the possibility of adding different types of cheese, different veggies, etc., and enhancing it even more.

Chocolate Cookie Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: May 27, 2007
This has a good flavor and is not overly sweet; however it was not quite the consistency I needed. For me there is too much butter and not enough sugar for it to be as creamy as I prefer.

Orange Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: May 24, 2007
Simply perfect for Carolyn's Orange Rolls, from this website, and the orange zest was wonderful! I left out the nuts and added 1/2 teaspoon vanilla; other than that, the recipe was perfect for me. I will use this on other desserts and will try it with nuts too.

Carolyn's Orange Rolls

Reviewed: May 24, 2007
These rolls are so delicious. The delicate orange flavor makes a nice counterpoint to the richness of the buttery dough. Almost like eating cotton candy, they are so tender! I iced them with the Orange Cream Cheese Frosting, from this website, and they are irresistible. I will also use this recipe for cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls. Outstanding!
