About this Cook
I am a single woman who is always looking for a reason to cook. I get great enjoyment from it. I am the person who will order a meal out and then go home and desperately try to recreate it.
My favorite things to cook
Care packages. Whether its good news or bad, home cooked meals are always appropriate. So whether a friend has just brought her first child home from the hospital or another is facing a challenge, there are generally a couple meatloaf, some scalloped potatoes, chicken lemon rice soup, and homemade cookies coming their way.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother's noodles. It may be a very midwestern thing, but every holiday growing up included, Beef and noodles served over mashed potatoes with a side of corn and a bread roll! Dr. Atkins would pass out! I have never been able to replicate my grandmother's noodles, but I'll keep trying.
My cooking triumphs
One of the best parts about cooking a meal is presenting it. I hosted a very last minute surprise bridal champagne brunch (for a bride who was stressing about finding a wedding dress). The result was a delicious, beautifully displayed buffet full of stuffed French Toast, breakfast meats, mimosas and such. It was perfect - I was so proud!
My cooking tragedies
There are probably too many to list. I attempted to make a leg of lamb for "Orphan's Easter" one year. It was so awful - beyond rare! It was so underdone that the "juice" from the meat ran around everyone's plate which affected everything else. No one ate! So I ended up with a bunch of people who were starving and tipsy because we kept drinking wine - UGLY!

Garlic Red Potatoes
These are good for red potatoes (I'm not a huge fan) I wanted to add some color to my meal and tried these. I would make them again.

Zucchini Risotto
This was really great. I chopped the zucchini coarsely and added it at the beginning with the onion, I also included some coarsely chopped red pepper. The vegetables were soft but provided outstanding flavor. I highly recommend this, it wasn't nearly as difficult as I had built it up to be. I am excited to try this again with different blends of vegetables.

Basil Tomato Soup
I hosted Christmas this year and wanted a 'light' lunch to serve and decided this soup would work with a grilled cheese. It was a hit! Everyone asked for the recipe. I did use 1/2 & 1/2 instead of whipping cream and half the butter called for to reduce the fat and added cayenne pepper to kick it up a bit. VERY easy.
