I know its been forever since Ive blogged. Moving across country took forever. Getting into a house took forever. We fell in love with one rental (and I would totally buy it so that I could fix this house) based on its kitchen. It has a five burner gas stove with a warming side oven. Custom… MORE

As a military spouse I really shouldn't whine about moving but this time has just been a huge pain in the @ss. We were supposed to be out of the house at the end of June but TMO did not get movers for us (despite telling me everything was fine every time I called). Finally, last Thursday they… MORE

I have a problem. I am addicted to reading about food.   Help.   I love to cook. I love to eat (as evidenced by my thighs). And I love reading about all aspects of food. New food ideas (what the heck is a ramp and why haven’t I tried it?). Cute food ideas (I must be the only person in MORE

Well...we are a few weeks into the whole meatless thing and...I’m starving! I realized I need to start eating more protein. Too bad I hate beans (sorry...but I do not need the extra fiber. Trust me). So after much debate I have decided to start making smoothies for an afternoon snack (except… MORE

Yesterday was Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season. I haven't been Catholic very long so I haven't always appreciated Lent.   My husband and I are kind of crazy because we always pick something strange to give up that is usually food related. I will freely admit that maybe we f MORE

My former coworkers in Texas used to eat fast food breakfast almost every day. Their excuse was that they didn’t have time to make breakfast because they had to drop of their kids at daycare. I don’t have kids so I don’t know how crazy mornings must be for parents. But they made their kids break MORE

This is a non-food related blog so I apologize to those we are looking for one. I just had to vent about the current state of my yard. Last night a storm blew through my town. I didn't think anything of it because we get thunderstorms quite a bit. I had just finished my dinner (ah the deployment MORE

Someone on the recipe exchange mentioned making the Butterbeer from the Harry Potter theme park in Orlando. I was just in Orlando this winter so I did not get a chance to try it. But everyone online has talked about great it is so I thought I would give it a try. I found a recipe (which MORE

I had a rough week this week so I decided that Friday night I would treat myself by making steak with béarnaise sauce. I love béarnaise. I used to get it all the time in Belgium on anything! Chicken, fish, frittes and steak! It is basically a butter mayonnaise and oh so delicious and unheal MORE

About Me
I'm a military wife just living it up around the world. My husband and I prefer to eat at home rather than go out. Too many times have we gone somewhere only to look at each other and say "we could make this better at home." I hate chain restaurants....everything is salty, huge and fatty.
My favorite things to cook
Pizza! Breads! Anything Italian...or Japanese for that matter. I love to cook anything that tastes good and doesn't take 5 hours. And I like to find new ways to eat vegetables. Its tough living in Texas were coleslaw is considered a vegetable!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Pierogis for Christmas and Easter. Fresh from scratch lasagne on Christmas Eve. Waffles, muffins.........my husband makes the most delicious Mabo Tofu and fried rice. I could eat bowls and bowls of it.
My cooking triumphs
Getting my husband to like tofu. He loves it now. It cracks me up because he used to refer to it as "bad chicken" in stir frys. I think trying to eat vegan every now and then is good too. Its opened my mind to a whole new way to approach food :)
My cooking tragedies
Ive made a few revolting soups. Totally inedible. Ok. Ive made a LOT of revolting soups. My poor husband. I keep trying new recipes but there is only a few that have been edible. Ive messed up pretty much everything there is to think of.
