The holidays make me feel like cooking all day and all night. There is usually what we call the "cookie caper" at my husbands work where people get together and make a ton of cookies to give to soldiers who are staying here and working during the holidays instead of going home. My DH is… MORE

My first year of marriage to my husband was overseas in northern Japan. We like to say that going to Europe is like going to a foreign country. But going to Japan is like going to Mars. It’s a small island but has so many people and different foods. When our first Thanksgiving approached I was v MORE

When my husband starts a phone call with “Now I don’t want you to freak out…” I instantly freak out. As I recently posted on the RE my area in is getting a TON of rain and there is a huge chance for flooding. He told me that the last time it was this bad, they closed Langley and the base was… MORE

Day 3 of our super road trip across country. We have made it to Virginia. My car that was acting up in Texas was great. Untill today. It died at the hotel from overheating. Guess we will add some more coolant and do our final push tomorrow. There are Dunkin Donuts here so my DH says we have… MORE

We had a party to get rid of food. At least that was the plan since the movers are coming on monday (EEEEEEK). But my DH is kind of crazy so it turned into homemade snacks a go go night. Homemade manicotti (as is made the noodles from scratch. Actually they are crepes which are really good!).… MORE

Its official! I have two weeks left in Texas. Last night I had horrible dreams about closing on the house before we left and getting into a fight with the movers. Me? Stressed? Nah! To make it worse we wont be able to close before we leave so we have to give someone a power of attorney to sign… MORE

This past month has taught me some valuable lessons about home ownership. First and foremost is to do any work that needs to be done as soon as you move into it. Waiting for it magically to get done does not work (boo hoo!). There was a ugly entertainment center that was built in my bedroom… MORE

Im planning on making Seans Falafel again this week. Simple and yummy and a good way for me to use up stuff in my pantry before the big move. Except...I live in BFE Texas. So there is no pita bread. I went to 3 different stores. 3! Finally found it at HEB but its square and my DH looked at it… MORE

About Me
I'm a military wife just living it up around the world. My husband and I prefer to eat at home rather than go out. Too many times have we gone somewhere only to look at each other and say "we could make this better at home." I hate chain restaurants....everything is salty, huge and fatty.
My favorite things to cook
Pizza! Breads! Anything Italian...or Japanese for that matter. I love to cook anything that tastes good and doesn't take 5 hours. And I like to find new ways to eat vegetables. Its tough living in Texas were coleslaw is considered a vegetable!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Pierogis for Christmas and Easter. Fresh from scratch lasagne on Christmas Eve. Waffles, muffins.........my husband makes the most delicious Mabo Tofu and fried rice. I could eat bowls and bowls of it.
My cooking triumphs
Getting my husband to like tofu. He loves it now. It cracks me up because he used to refer to it as "bad chicken" in stir frys. I think trying to eat vegan every now and then is good too. Its opened my mind to a whole new way to approach food :)
My cooking tragedies
Ive made a few revolting soups. Totally inedible. Ok. Ive made a LOT of revolting soups. My poor husband. I keep trying new recipes but there is only a few that have been edible. Ive messed up pretty much everything there is to think of.
