I made a modified version of this (ice cream instead of whipped cream, chocolate syrup instead of the from-scratch mix here), but found the bananas in simple syrup to be very bland. I think it would be better with brown sugar instead of white, and it needed some cinnamon, too.

Like others, I found this sauce bland. I had read the reviews, so I added an extra clove of garlic, an extra tbsp cream cheese and some shredded parmesean cheese--and it still wasnt enough. Perhaps if the mushrooms were sauteed in some white wine?...

Delicious! I substituted vegetable broth and it was fine. I added the butter/flour roux at the end--but I dont think the soup really needed it, if you are looking to save a few calories. I will have this on my menu any time the red bell peppers are on sale! Even my pickiest friends loved it.
