Lemonade Cake III

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2007
Great cake! I followed the directions exactly, and then drizzled blueberry and spice sauce (from this site) over it along with fresh blueberries and strawberries. My guests raved. Will make again!

Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2007
Yum! Great recipe as is but can also be altered for your taste - I like to saute some garlic in olive oil until cooked, add the oregano and some fresh parmesan cheese to the mixture, and then coat the bread slices with it (in place of the butter - I think it's a bit healthier and very tasty) and then grill or broil them. I also like italian blended cheese and thinly sliced tomato in the middle. The dip is an added bonus!

Pizza Without the Red Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2007
Wow this was good. I'm not a big fan of pesto so I just chopped up sun dried tomatoes in place of the pesto. Also added red bell peppers and used blue cheese, since that is what I had on hand. Excellent!!!!

Quiche Lorraine I

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2007
Tasty. I made this last minute and I didn't have a crust so I just made it as a casserole without the crust and it was great. I added a little nutmeg and some thinly sliced tomatoes and bell peppers on top. It did take a little longer to cook. Husband ate it up.

Autumn Cheesecake

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2007
Wow this was good and looks great! I would definitely make 1 1/2 the amount of cheesecake and add the crumb topping, which just tops it off (I did 1/3 cup brown sugar, 2 Tbsp. flour, 1/8 tsp. cinnamon & 1 Tbsp. butter). The only other thing I would suggest is to make sure it sets in the refrigerator overnight or at least for about 8 hours prior to serving so the cheesecake is firm (mine was mushy after only being in the refrig. for 3 hours). Great recipe!

Chocolate Trifle

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2007
This was good but I could only eat a little bit, it was very sweet/rich...and I'm a chocoholic!! I would use a simple brownie with it (not one that has anything added to it, will just make it too sweet if you do). The presentation was very nice.

Whipped Cream

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2007
Great. It was very "vanilla-ee" so I would use a milder vanilla or less of it next time. Also, Trader Joe's heavy cream is the BEST!

Very good. I used the thick sliced cinnamon bread which was great! Also added pecans. A sweet and filling dish.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2007
I give this 5 stars because it was easy, and tasty for such a simple recipe. I used milk in place of the water, which gave it a creamier taste (I thought broth would be too salty). I also added a few herbs - rosemary & thyme - for some added flavor. I made Bisquick dumplings to top it off. Great, quick meal. Husband loved it.

Ham and Cheese Bowties

This was tasty, but very rich. I added petite peas and had to use more milk than called for because it got too thick. Good with the ham!

Excellent. Of course it has to be served with good vanilla ice cream on top.

Curried Cashew, Pear, and Grape Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2006
The thing that makes this salad awesome is the curried cashews...wow!!!! I added some goat cheese and craisins as well. A keeper!!! Edit: After making this salad a bunch of times, I found that the dressing is best when cutting back to 1/4 cup olive oil (otherwise too oily tasting) and adding 1/2 tsp of paprika. I also like to add fresh raspberries to the salad. Good stuff!!

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2006
Oh Yum!! I couldn't find any good strawberries so I used mango instead. Made it with apricot jam and used Trader Joe's cinnamon chips (for the sake of time) and it was excellent. Great appetizer in place of chips and salsa.

Creamy Butternut Squash With Cinnamon Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2006
I had a similar soup at the Princeville resort in Kauai and decided I was going to figure out how to make it. I followed the directions except used heavy cream in place of the half-and-half (may as well go all out), added about 1 tsp of curry, and added blue cheese on top as a garnish. WOW!!! We gave it 10 stars!!!!

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2006
I wish I would've read the notes submitted by B. Mason - Next time I will get fresh nutmeg and grate it to the sauce, as suggested. I think that would make an already delicious sauce even better. I served this over tortellini and added cubed ham and peas to it. Got 5 stars from my husband. Thanks.

I thought this was average...did what other users suggested- added extra bacon, cheese and bbq sauce. Easy to prepare. I like the concept and will probably make again..but will play with the ingredients.

Apple Bacon Tomato Soup

This was full of flavor. I decided to go all the way with this and added toasted sourdough bread cubes on top and then a slice of swiss cheese, broiled it until the cheese melted, and served it like French Onion soup. Delish!

Bill's Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2006
Excellent! I didn't get to the store so I used what I had on hand...used regular sausage but added about 1/4 cup of maple syrup for the flavor and only had 2% milk to use but it still tasted great! Also, I made homemade biscuits and it was a lot of work and not worth the taste...once they're smothered in gravy you can't tell the difference so next time I will get country biscuits from the store. My husband loooooved this!!!

Croutons

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2006
I like to make these with "everything" bagels and cut them in long, thin slices. These have so much flavor all you need to do is butter them before baking. Then I refrigerate them in a ziplock and they last for awhile. Good stuff!
