Crazy; that's a description I hear a lot. To be fair, that's generally preceded by the statement "I like winters up here (Fairbanks, AK) much better than summers". They just don't realize the simple pleasures of stepping inside from -40 to the smell of fresh baked pumpernickel and the radiant heat of the woodstove. Particularly fond of making breads, soups, and stews. Instead of a traditional Christmas dinner, every year we'd sit down to a feast of homemade Asian (generally Chinese, but we mixed it up sometimes.) Nothing like the feeling of accomplishment when, after spending all week smoking, canning, vacuum-sealing, and cleaning, the last of the 450 lbs of salmon fillets are processed and preserved. (Then you sit down with a nice scotch and have just one can of smoked salmon).
