About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I like to bake cakes and cookies and puddings... pretty much everything that is bad for you. I also like to grill, but I have just started that recently. I'd like to become a grilmaster!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Dad makes an apple pie for my mother every year for her birthday, and has for as long as I can remember.
My cooking triumphs
My husband's cousin and his wife recently spent the weekend with us. They raved about my cooking all weekend long. I wasn't doing anything special. It really gave me confidence to know that even my "old standards" are new and refreshing to somebody. And vice versa. That why this website works!
My cooking tragedies
I can't think of one of my own, but I'm sure I have several. As soon as I remember, Ill post one. In the meantime, let me share one that a friend once told me about. She did not have a reputation for being a very good cook, and determinedly set out to change that. She decided to begin her transformation by making eggplant parmesan. Others suggested she start with something easier, but she figured she can read, she can follow directions, how hard could it be? She followed the directions to a "T"! The recipe said to slice the eggplant, rinse the pieces in water, cover them with about 1/2 cup of salt, and let them sit for 15 min or so. But the recipe never said to rinse the pieces off! So she didnt! The final result smelled heavenly. But one bite from each of her friends, and her reputation as the worst cook was sealed!

Peach Curry Glazed Pork Chops
Very tasty! I used a fresh peach because that's what I had. Cooked it down in a simple syrup of 1 c. oj and 2T sugar for about 20 min . Followed rest of directions as written. I loved the flavor.

Noel Bars
Are you supposed to be able to get the bars out of the pan before cutting them? That's what I tried… I had trouble with that and my single baked cookie broke into about 5 pieces. Luckily they were still warm and I could stick them back together. And confectioners sugar, I learned, covers up a bunch of imperfections. Gave it 4 stars because despite all the trouble, they still tasted great!

Sweet 'N' Sour Meat Loaf
I thought it was ok. Husband thought it was great. But we both really liked the meatloaf sandwiches we made with the leftovers the next day! Thanks for sharing.
