I'm a wife to my wonderful husband, and a mama to my three darling kids (ages 3, 1, and in utero). I'm blessed to be a stay-at-home mom and my interests include camping, running, Jazzercise, photography, and of course, cooking!
My favorite things to cook
Comfort foods. You definitely won't get froo-froo dishes when you come to my house- I just want to put something on the table my family will love.
My cooking triumphs
My pies! The women in my family are well known for their pies (all from scratch, of course). My great-grandma taught my grandma, my grandma taught my mom, and my mom taught me. Our family jokes about the "pie gene." So far there hasn't been more than one woman in each generation that can pull off a good pie. I was fortunate enough to receive the gifting. My favorite pies to bake are Dutch apple, cherry, blueberry, blackberry, and pumpkin.
My cooking tragedies
When my husband and I were first married I was taking a sociology class in school. One of our assignments was to create a situation with one other person where we behaved in a way that made them uncomfortable, and then write a paper recording their reactions. I decided to purposefully make my husband a meal that was absolutely disgusting. So I made a mostaccioli pasta dish and in his portion, stirred in a TON of salt and pepper, some vanilla coffee syrup, a bunch of powdered hot chocolate, and every other obscure thing I could find in the pantry. Just the smell of it made me want to vomit. When he came from work I made my plate out of the "virgin" pasta and gave him my little sociology experiment. He took one bite and said (seriously), "Mmm, this is really good," and proceeded to wolf it down. I don't know if that's a tragedy or a triumph, but whenever I cook a new dish I take my husband's praises with caution. :)
