So what's with this "Fat Bear Zen?" I mean, really! Fat?! The diet conscious might worry about that. Bear? What could that mean? If you're looking for delicious food for the body as well as the mind, then read on! I've got some tasty answers for you!
FAT is about abundance and quality.
"... and ye shall eat the fat of the land."-- Genesis 45:18
The "fat" part refers to the "choicest" produce the land will yield. The perfect peach or melon will be full, round, and juicy. Nature at her peak will be fat.
BEAR is about scarcity.
"... cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life"-- Genesis 3:17
The "bear" part refers to the animal that is successful at overcoming the challenges of existing in a world of scarcity. The bear not only survives, but it thrives!
ZEN is about the mindfulness that balances abundance and scarcity.
"... food in rituals reflects the rhythms of food production, including its scarcity or abundance during the year.... It is possible to see a contrast between ascetic approaches to food (for example, during the rains' retreat from July to October) and festival excess (for example, after harvest in November and December)."--
