Aunt Millie's Broccoli Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2008
We didn't care for this recipe. I didn't add any salt to it and my husband kept saying it was too salty. My 1 year old gobbled it down, but then again he eats everything including paper.

Ham with Honey and Brown Sugar Glaze

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2008
This recipe is very good. I wanted to thicken it up so I added some cornstarch as well. But then all of a sudden I had all these clumps so I strained those out and dumped everything in a bowl. Meanwhile I used toothpicks to attach pineapple rings to the outside of the ham. I also dotted with a few cloves. It actually worked perfect cooling in the bowl because the glaze was thicken than last time I made it. It turned out just perfect. I baste every 20 mins and take it out when it reaches 160 degrees.

Hot Apple Cider

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2008
I didn't have any maple syrup so I used a heaping tablespoon of honey instead. I bought a container of Tree Top apple cider and dumped most of it in my crockpot. I used about a cup of pineapple juice that was left over from pineapples on my Christmas ham. I didn't use any lemon. I sliced the oranges into circles and left them in the crockpot the whole time. I threw in two cinnamon sticks, and a pinch of each of these spices: ground cinnamon, ground allspice, ground nutmeg, and ground cloves. It came out wonderful for my Christmas Eve party.

Broccoli with Garlic Butter and Cashews

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2008
This is one of my favorite recipes. It makes broccoli taste like candy. The only thing I do different is that I add water in place of vinegar.

Libby's® Famous Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2008
I love this pie! I made this one and The Brown Family Pumpkin Pie this year and tried them both side by side. The Libby pie won hands down. Stick with the traditional pie! The only thing I do different is that along with all the regular spices I add 1/4 tsp of nutmeg. I also make my own whipping cream. 1 C Whipping Cream (unflavored one in the carton), 1/4 C white sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla extract. Whip until peaks hold but be careful not to overwhip or you will get butter. I used Never Fail Pie Crust II.

Bread and Celery Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2008
This recipe was really good. I only made a couple changes. I used half wheat and half white french bread. I cut into small cubes and toasted on low in the oven for a couple hours to toast. I also added one granny smith apple, fresh sage, rosemary, thyme, and parsley. The taste was great but it didn't stick together that well. Next time I will try adding an egg or two. I made the mistake of adding the bread in an hour before I baked to get it ready. The bread got soggy but that was my own fault, next time I won't mix in the bread until right before it goes in the oven.

Green Bean Stir-Fry

This recipe is so yummy that I actually liked green beans for the first time. Even got the kids to eat them!!!! I used this recipe for Thanksgiving instead of making the traditional casserole.

Brown Family's Favorite Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2008
I agree with another reviewer that said this pie was "blah." It was ok but really was missing all the yummy spicy favor of traditional pumpkin pie. I made this pie and the traditional Libby's pie and tasted them side by side. The Libby's pie was far better in taste. Just look for the recipe on the back on the can.

Never Fail Pie Crust II

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2008
This pie crust was easy and it rolled out very nice. The texture and look of it was perfect but the taste just wasn't there for me. I'm not ready to throw this recipe out entirely so I think next time I will try real butter and see if that helps.

MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: May 13, 2008
I followed the recipe exactly and these are the best brownies ever! I have no idea how other people found them "cake like," they were so chewy and yummy. Don't over bake! It is ok if the toothpick isn't perfectly clean.

Pineapple Stuffing

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2008
I doubled the recipe and each time I scooped for the sugar I used just slightly less than a cup. I used butter as well. Came out just perfect as always. My husband loves pineapples and really loves this stuffing. Everyone was raving and my kids gobbled it down. I got some yummy sweet bread at a french bakery and cut into cubes and toasted in the oven at 200 degrees for a couple hours until nice and stiff. I will never buy stale bread cubes again.

Classic Bran Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2007
These muffins were yummy. I didn't have any buttermilk so I just used whole milk and they came out just fine. They were very moist and had a great texture. I took the advice of another reviewer and added a little extra vanilla (1 tsp instead of half). I also used Canola oil. Next time I am going to try it with nutmeg. I think it would be a nice addition.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2007
These came out so yummy and moist. I used Canola oil instead of butter. I also used 4 ripe bananas and it gave it such a good banana flavor. I was out of cinnamon but I think the topping was great without it. I will definitly be making these again.

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2007
These are the best cookies ever. My new favorite cookie. They come out so chewy. I used all butter and a heaping amount of peanut butter and a little extra oats as well. I could not stop eating them. I baked them on parchment paper as well. Be sure to take them out at just the right time. My first batch was perfect but my second was left in just a tad bit too long. It was still good but the first batch was chewier.

Blueberry Buckle

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2007
I made the recipe exactly as written except I used half butter half shortening. I don't understand why people would say to use only 1 1/2 cups flour. It comes out fine with the 2 cups. Just follow the directions and add the flour alternating with the milk. I think this goes without saying, but always spoon in flour and level off, never pack. I sifted the flour mixture before adding in. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the topping came out very hard. It still tasted good but I would have liked it to be softer. The cake part was fluffy and yummy. Will make again, but I will try something different with the topping.

Scottish Shortbread IV

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2007
Perfect. Just what shortbread should taste like. You don't need to change it at all. I used unsalted butter so I added just a tiny pinch of salt. To the person who said it tasted bland, they aren't supposed to be overly sweet. I think next time I might dip one end in chocolate.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2007
They taste great. The first batch I used a glass to press down but they came out really flat. So I would suggust just leaving them as balls. Also I would double the sugar and cinnamon mixture. I ate five right out of the oven, yummy.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
These came out perfect. They were so soft and chewy. I iced them with sugar cookie icing. They came out great. I did add a little almond extract for some extra flavor. I made the dough a head of time and had it in the fridge overnight. It was pretty easy to roll on parchment paper. Cookies come out so much better baked on parchment paper.
