About this Cook
Hi there! I'm a young mama living on the beach in sunny California. I have a gorgeous little Gerber baby, and another on the way. We love to cook at my house, and I can't wait until my little ones are old enough to join me in making a huge mess with tasty results.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking absolutely any and every kind of dessert! I enjoy making my desserts in small portions (like miniature cakes instead of full size) so my son can enjoy them, too. I also really like cake decorating, even though it's probably what I'm least good at. As for entrees, my favorite meal to cook is breakfast. Veggie quiche, homemade waffles with fruit, even vegetarian breakfast burritos- I love it all.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am of Norwegian heritage, so I have plenty of Germanic recipes to share as soon as I get the time to post them :) We do Kadovals (a potato filled noodle dumpling) and crepes every year for Christmas in my family, and they are both absolutely delicious! My other favorite European tradition is the kringla- an absolutely great alternative for someone who doesn't like the toothachey sweet stuff, but still wants a little sugar.
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving dinner for only two people- I had to figure out the math on how to skim down every single recipe, somehow manage to not pay out more than forty dollars for the whole ordeal, and still make all the fixings. I did it, though, and my hubby was a happy man!
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make anything out of the Hello, Cupcake! book. Great book, even greater photography... don't ever believe these people when they tell you that you can make these things at home without owning professional supplies. First of all, they are a LOT harder than they look! Also, half of the cupcakes call for like a single cookie, or five drops of this and that... it gets way too expensive to go across town to a baking store just to create a substandard version of their cupcakes... I've had to learn to just put the book down.

The Whole Jar of Peanut Butter Cookies
I used a 15 ounce jar of Skippy Natural (Creamy) and found that they were the best peanut butter cookies I have ever had. I would recommend this to anyone who has a love affair with peanut butter!

Red Velvet Cake
This cake is decent, but not amazing. It is definitely dry, perhaps if I try this again I will add a package of chocolate pudding. I would've given it four stars for taste alone, but the frosting killed it. It tastes like flour, and it comes out really yellow in color. The texture is also wrong. I would definitely use a whipped cream frosting, or cream cheese. I know it's not "traditional", but the cake really needs something other than what it calls for.

Clark Gable Pancakes
This is a perfect, easy pancake recipe. It's fast, they're completely fluffy, and they melt in your mouth! Thanks for such a simple recipe. Please note that the amount of baking powder is correct. There was no bitterness due to the amount suggested, so I say go for it- these pancakes fluffed up like none I'd ever seen!
