Egg Noodles

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2009
Amazing! I've never made noodles before and was quite frankly skeptical that something so simple could really be so tasty. I'm sorry I waited so long to try! Perfect for my turkey noodle soup. Will make again and again....can't wait to show it off!

Cherry Tomato Corn Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2009
I didn't really care for this--too much basily taste, no zing. Although, several of my friends' toddlers liked it, one even asked for seconds. I ended up adding 2 times the amounts of salt and lime juice, as well as a generous amount of balsamic vinegar. It looked pretty and refreshing, but I won't make it again as written.

Cream of Fresh Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2009
Not my favorite. I used whole milk. In order to get tomato flavor I had to puree the tomatoes/onions, even then I ended up adding parmesan, cheddar cheese, and some wheat snack crackers to give it even a mild flavor. Won't make this again.

Finally, something my husband and one-year-old will both eat! I used whole wheat pasta for a bit of a nutrition boost, and we all loved this well-rounded dish.

Corn Dogs

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
I used jalapeno cheddar franks and turkey dogs--fantastic!! A few tips: make the batter as cold as possible by putting in the freezer 10-20 minutes; pat dogs dry so batter will stick; a drinking glass works well for dipping the dogs; I had the heat on my electric stove barely on med-hi, just past medium for perfect doneness (my thermometer is broken); I fried one until just browned, then froze it, then nuked it on defrost for a minute to heat the inside and then put it under the broiler to crisp it up--just as good the second time around. No need to buy store-bought ever again.

Sloppy Joe Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2009
Brought this to a 4th of July get-together. A slice of American cheese (how appropriate) on the bottom helps the bun from getting soggy. I added some minced onion to the hamburger, as well as a teaspoon of vinegar to the ketchup mix. Loved by all, even my one-year-old! Next time I will sneak some carrot puree in there to get some more veggies into my picky eaters.

Used Yukon Gold potatoes and sprinkled some garlic salt along with salt/pepper. Easy side dish, very tasty.

Biscuit Baking Mix

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2009
I initially made this for a recipe because I ran out of boxed mix. I made a half recipe because a full was too much for me to handle. There is definitely a difference in taste from the box mix. I've made a big batch and put it in my freezer for use in all of my biscuit mix recipes.

I've never made waffles before (from a mix or otherwise) and these were simple and delicious! Fried up some green apples with cinnamon and sugar, then some whipped cream. I impressed my company:)

Monte Cristo Sandwich - the Real One

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2009
It was fun to find this recipe! My husband loves these. We affectionately call this the Monte Crisco. Using regular sandwich bread, I basically combined 2 sandwiches (bread, turkey, cheese, ham, bread, repeat). To help keep the sandwiches together I pressed them flat and put them in the fridge under a heavy plate for an hour. Then inserted toothpicks at a 45 degree angle. We serve ours with honey, and we really enjoy these as a rare treat.

Salmon with Brown Sugar Glaze

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2009
Perfect for grilled salmon! I used spicy brown mustard with the brn sugar. We usually use a sweet teriyaki for salmon, and my husband and I both thought this was a perfect combo of sweet and tangy, and that it complimented the flavor of the salmon very nicely. Easy, on-hand ingredients, inexpensive, and a new favorite!

Tangy Slow Cooker Pork Roast

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2009
Moist and tasty, though not very different from other recipes I've tried. I poked it through with a knife several times to let the flavor in; I used 2 T white vinegar and 1 T apple juice instead of red wine vinegar; added 1 beef bouillon cube. Served with green beans and buttered rice. I'll use the leftover meat for bbq pork sandwiches.

Tangy Broccoli

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
I make my cheesy broccoli with frozen broccoli, sliced onion, American cheese slices (I don't keep Velveeta around) and cracked pepper in the microwave. The mustard was a perfect addition to give this dish a little extra zest. Didn't have any Dijon so I used a big squirt of spicy brown mustard, and my hubby says it's the best I've ever made! Thanks for a keeper!

Garlic Cheddar Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
Tender, moist, flavorful chicken with a crispy, buttery coating. I added some garden-fresh onion to my garlic butter and eyeballed the ingredients since I was only making 2 pieces of chicken. My husband and I both loved this recipe. Easy, quick, with ingredients I keep in the kitchen. This will become a staple in our house!

Basic Baked Spaghetti

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
I used this recipe mostly as a template because I had a lot of leftover sauce w/meatballs. I did a layer of spaghetti/sauce, layer of mozzerella/cheddar, layer of spaghetti, then sprinkled mozzerella and parmesan on top and baked until cheese melted. Didn't think I'd like the cheddar, but I really enjoyed it.

Grilled Turkey Legs

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
Our grill ended up catching on fire (time to clean it!!) so ours were a bit crispy, but the inside was still surprisingly moist and tasty. While I don't agree that they taste anything like the turkey legs you might get an amusement park or fair, I enjoyed them. The cooked onions might be tasty over mashed potatoes as a handy side dish.
