About this Cook
Born and raised in PA, spent some time in Japan, and now I live in Kauai. I love being outside- esp at the beach!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. My mom is a great baker and I try to be as good as she is- unfortunately I fall a bit short! Still, I always bake for friends and coworkers and everyone usually loves it. I also love trying to make Japanese food, which is very conducive to living in Hawaii.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom and I always baked cookies on snow days.
My cooking triumphs
It hasn't happened yet, but I am working on replicating my mom's chocolate chip cookie recipe. Keep your fingers crossed! Also, I often had gyoza making dinner parties with Japanese friends and I have successfully recreated the gyoza that we made. Very oishii!
My cooking tragedies
Too many. I think the worst was when I tried to make toast when I was 8, put butter on the bread before I toasted it and set the toaster on fire. I never really follow a recipe, and often had a few too many dashes of something and regret it later (usually salt). But when it happens, I try to eat it and throw out the rest.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.
I love cookie dough, so I had to make these. They turned out very well for the most part. I did take out the dough before I spooned out the batter for the first pan so they weren't entirely frozen and the dough was a little more cooked in that batch. I realized my mistake and kept the dough for the second pan in the freezer and they were perfect. Some of the cupcakes sunk a little bit in the center, but no one could tell. I might consider making an eggless cookie dough in the future, however.

Eggplant Parmesan II
My mom used to make this for me and I decided to make it myself tonight. I only used egg whites and instead of baking the eggplant, I broiled it. The recipe is a little bit time consuming, but not difficult by any means. I would have added some salt to the eggplant, but I am a salt lover.

Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting
I made this recipe and it was perfect! I did not have evaporate milk so I used some skim and I don't think it affected it at all. This is a rich, creamy icing, which is my personal favorite.
