About this Cook
I'm a young woman (almost nineteen!) living in a teeny, tiny trailer with her boyfriend and some friends from high school. For most of my life, I hated cooking, but I've recently developed an unexpected love for it. =] I haven't heard any complaints yet, so I must be doing something right...
My favorite things to cook
Easy recipes with inexpensive ingredients. Very important when you're unemployed and living on a strict budget! Also, anything I can add onions and garlic to is a definite winner!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't have any yet, but I expect to be making some very soon.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I ever cooked anything for my housemates! My boyfriend's a picky eater but loves green peppers, so I tried my hand at making stuffed green peppers for dinner one night. My friends were all too scared to try it, but I decided to go ahead and prepare all the peppers I'd bought anyway---I love leftovers! Despite their initial skepticism, however, they all ended up trying the dish and all loved it! I was so happy and proud of my small victory that I smiled the rest of the day.
My cooking tragedies
Too many of these to list! I had a very unsuccessful start to my cooking ventures, I have to admit.

Stuffed Green Peppers II
At first, when I told my housemates that I was making stuffed green peppers for dinner, they were skeptical. By the time dinner was done, though, I had made believers of them all! This is a very tasty dish, and easy to throw together. I did find, though, that the peppers didn't soften very well, which disappointed me. Next time I cook this, I will definitely cover it before baking.

Caramel Apple Pork Chops
This was a huge hit at my house, which is no small feat--I live with a group of teenage friends, all of whom are really picky eaters. It was really easy, too, which is definitely a plus as I've only just ventured out into the cooking world. I did make a few small changes: substituting pork steaks for the pork chops (they were much, much cheaper), adding garlic salt to the pork when I was pan-frying it, and only searing it for a few seconds before putting it in the oven. I baked them at 350 for about forty minutes, I think. Also, I added sauteed onions to a few of the chops while they were baking, since I'm a huge fan of onions. I more or less quadrupled the sauce (save for the apples, as I didn't know whether or not my friends would like cooked apples), and opted to serve it on the side instead of directly over the meat. It was delicious, and my friends and I devoured them within just a few minutes. Definitely a recipe I will be trying again, and certainly one I would recommend to others.
