I am an Irish/German American muslim living in the United Arab Emirates. My husband is Arab/African, so our family has varied tastes. I have always liked to cook but in the last few years I have really started to love it and am always looking for new recipes or old ones I can "tweek". My passion nowadays is baking and I have come up with several very healthy, very tasty alternatives to the usual sugar laden, white flour sweets. I'll be posting those recipes later.
My favorite things to cook
Cakes, cookies, desserts, breads and healthy snacks.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our only real tradition is Ramadan. Ramadan is the month muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. We spend a good part of the day cooking and preparing for breaking our fast in the evening. A few years ago my daughters and I decided to come up with our own Ramadan tradition. Instead of the same old food, we came up with idea of making something different every night. And that evolved into the idea of making menus from different countries each day. Now, in the months before Ramadan begins we spend hours researching, planning menus and printing recipes so that when Ramadan starts we are well prepared!
