About this Cook
I love to read cookbooks and decide on a menu for the weekend before grocery shopping. I love to research the recipes by looking them up in my cookbooks and online at allrecipes.com to see if someone has an intersting twist on it. I love that! I also love to find unusual ingredients and experiment with them. Lately, I have been experimenting with almond flour/meal and flax meal. I make lovely lemon blueberry muffins with it. Yummy!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook the following: ** Pizzas made from portobello mushrooms with fresh mozzarella and olives ** Steamed fresh green beans with nothing on them ** Green salad with simple dressing of oil and red wine vinegar ** Simple pan seared rib eye steak ** Spicy Kung Pao beef with celery and zucchini and peanuts

Poor Boy Sandwich
I'm a huge fan of horseradish and was hoping the flavor of this would be good but I didn't care for it. I made it as directed except to salvage it I added some lemon juice, a little salt and turned it into a tuna melt by broling cheddar cheese over the tuna and adding some spicy mustard the top of the roll. I would not make again since there are so many outstanding tuna salad recipes on this site. I'd skip this one.

Bean, Bacon and Pepper Soup
This is a great winter soup! The flavors are perfect together. I didn't have cannellini beans so I used canned pinto and it was awesome. We ate the whole pot in one sitting. I also pureed 2/3's of the soup so as to leave some beans whole and to give it more interest. Thanks Deserie!

Citrus Turkey Brine
I've used this recipe (with a few additions) five times and I'm using it today to brine turkey for the holiday. My additions: I add 3 Tablespoons of liquid smoke which is a fabulous addition if you don't smoke your bird. I also add an equal amount of sugar to salt ratio which helps the bird brown beautifully and adds additional flavor. Fantastic receipe!
