About this Cook
I'm a former vegetarian who married a meat-n-potatoes guy. I do most of the cooking for the two of us. I love to try new things in the kitchen and have been experimenting with Dutch cuisine lately.
My favorite things to cook
I have a strong love for Mexican food. I lived in southern Mexico for a few years and tried everything I could while I was there. I still can't make tortillas but I can whip up a mean pot of beans. I also worked at the world's best bakery for awhile and love to make bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom did most of the cooking for our family and she was a major health nut. I never knew that you could fry food at home until I left the house when I was 18. My husband encourages me out of the tofu! greens! attitude with his attitude of "butter makes it better."
My cooking triumphs
Egh. When everyone (and I'd settle for most) at the table are happy, I consider that a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
I have plenty! I hate bringing something (like a cake or a pan of uncut brownies) to a party/event that I can't taste beforehand to make sure I'm not poisoning everyone.

Favorite Banana Blueberry Quick Bread
easy and delicious. I made it with 1/2c white and 1/2c brown sugar. also added some spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla. used muffin tins instead of a loaf pan and they came out very well. These are great!

Blueberry Muffins I
good recipe but I also added 1c berries. should've increased the sugar or added lemon zest...SOMEthing. They were good but didn't have much pizazz. Also used butter instead of oil. Very quick!! I put them in my mini muffin pan and they are cute!

Chocolate Cream Pudding
chocolate squares can't exist in my house for more than 24hr so I used 6tbl cocoa pwd and 2tbl butter to substitute. This seemed to work fine. It would help if the recipe said "stir until it forms a pudding consistency." I don't have much experience with pudding or corn starch so the first time I made this I stirred for two min and put in the fridge, thinking it'd congeal as it chilled. it does not! You need to stir until it is the consistency you want. Delicious and so fast! loved it.
