About this Cook
Ive been cooking since I was about 8 years old. I started out helping my busy working mom to cook dinner for a family of 5 (that actually ate like a family of 7). I love cooking, especially when I have an evening off. My favorite thing is to scope out the fridge or freezer and then check out recipes that use some of the ingredients I already have. Although I use recipes from other people, I seldom find myself leaving the recipe exactly the same.... I can't resist experimenting just a little, especially when it comes to food my hubby will eat because he loves things spicy.
My favorite things to cook
I love sweets, but its not realistic in my day to day life to limit myself to cooking sweets only. I love any recipe that can take something that usually is unappealing in one way or another and make it absolutely delicious, such as a tough cut of meat, marinated and slow cooked until it falls apart. That's just art and mojo and good stuff all wrapped up in one.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Has to be our tres leche cake. It took us a good long time to perfect our recipe on this one. there were plenty of "so-so" and "ok" attempts before we started getting any good results. But I'm sorry, this recipe stays in the family... no sharing on the 'net.
My cooking triumphs
Goes with the above... the infamous day we finally got the tres leche right. it was spectacular. melted in your mouth and the cake absorbed every drop of the liquid. DE-Lish
My cooking tragedies
a sad attempt at croquettes...turned out like hockey pucks

Brown Sugar Shortbread Cookies
horrible. flattened out to pancakes. too crunchy, even when dipped in coffee. too sweet, just not a good recipe in my opinion

Lebanese Chicken and Potatoes
it was good. i love lemon-flavored dishes. i didn't cut the lemon at all. i think next time i will add some sliced onion for a little extra flavor, though.

Crisp Little Lemon Cookies
quick, simple, and tasty. I made a few changes, simply for personal taste... I used corn flakes instead of crisp rice, for crunch. Also about 1/2 way thru cooking, i noticed they were turning out to be really fluffy soft cookies. I prefer more crunchy (crunchy, not burnt), so I gave them a little press with a spoon and a little sprinkle of raw sugar on top. turned out fantastic!
