Cake for Grandma's 80th Birthday
About this Cook
I am a college student studying child development, its been a long road to my career choice but here we are. I have a wonderful boyfriend who has spent 6 years in the Army and 1 year in the Army Reserves. We have two adorable pugs, Mac & Zoe, who are like our children. Very soon we will be making the big move to Alabama so the bf can go to flight school, therefore I need to brush up on my southern cooking!
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE baking. I hadn't really started cooking until I got my first apartment a few years ago and slowly but surely I am becoming more adventurous. Luckily, my boyfriend will eat anything.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandma is a whiz in the kitchen and I remember always helping her out when we visited but she is also very strict. So many times my grandma would make something delicious and I'd ask to lick the bowl, but was never allowed to! Now whenever I am making a dessert I always finish off the bottom of the bowl, take that grandma :)
My cooking triumphs
Making a wonderful Lemon Meringue that my boyfriend swore I bought.
My cooking tragedies
No real tragedies, nothing inedible. But I did recently make Shepherd's Pie and the recipe called for some chopped onions in the potatoes as well as in the meat mixture...somehow I read it wrong and put all the onions in the potatoes, and we ended up with uncooked crunchy onions throughout the top layer, it was interesting.

Simple Whole Wheat Bread
There is nothing like home-made bread! This one turned out perfect, takes a LONG time to rise but it is worth the wait. I can't wait to make a sandwich with this bread for work tomorrow, this one's going in my recipe binder.

Light Wheat Rolls
This it the first time I've ever made wheat bread and, although I have nothing to compare it to, I thought these were great! They were definitely light with a soft crust, the perfect dinner roll. I would even consider making these into wheat cinnamon rolls because they're that soft and yummy. This one it definitely going into the recipe binder!

Golden Sweet Cornbread
I have only ever made the corn bread recipe from the box and this one is MUCH better. Tastes like the sweet corn bread you'd get at a restaurant and you can whip it up in no time! I made mine into muffins and caught my beau sneaking one before bedtime they were so good :)
