About this Cook
I'm 24 years old, still living at home with my parents and my sister who recently graduated from college. I have an amazing boyfriend who LOVES FOOD. I'm out of work right now, but using the time to teach myself how to cook. I want to be ready and armed with recipes I already know and love for when I reenter the workforce (hopefully sooner rather than later!) My parents, sister, and sometimes my boyfriend are my guinea pigs for new recipes, but they (usually) enjoy them... luckily we haven't had to throw any out and order pizza lol. I'm always looking for simple, but delicious dishes that I will still have time to make once I go back to work.
My favorite things to cook
I'm a very picky eater, so really anything that I actually end up liking!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom is an excellent baker so I love when she bakes (especially around the holidays!!). She also makes waffles almost every Sunday mmmm :o)
My cooking triumphs
Anything that everyone in my house enjoys (we all have very different tastes).
My cooking tragedies
In high school, my parents were away for a weekend and my sister and I decided to cook dinner for ourselves. We tried to make mashed potatoes. So after we baked them (in the microwave probably, and probably not for long enough) we chopped them up and put them in a bowl with some milk and butter. We tried to mash them with the hand mixer, but they were so hard that they didn't mash very well. We ended up with what I would describe as a potato-soup like liquid with hard chunks of potatoes.

Mardi Gras Beef
Very good VERY FAST dish. Perhaps we had a thiner cut of meat (they didn't have sirloin when I went to pick it up). Followed the recipe exactly, except maybe a bit less cornstarch because the stewed tomato juice was already very thick. Great when you need dinner in a hurry especially if you make it with couscous or 10 min rice or any other quick side dish.

Parmesan Pork Tenderloin
Excellent. I didn't do the veggies at the end, but I followed the pork part of the recipe to a T (well, I eyeballed the S & P so may have added less and I used Italian Seasoned Breadcrumbs) and it came out perfectly. It was a hit. Will definitely make pork this way again, and might try the veggies another time!!

Shrimp and Feta Cheese Pasta
Delicious! I just realized that I forgot to add the basil and oregano... oops... but it was still good without it! As per most of the recommendations I added about 1/2 c chicken broth so there would be more sauce. I used a bit less pasta then called for and still thought there could be a bit more sauce. Will have to play around with the amount of liquid to get it right.. but it is really good!!
