I am from a little bitty town in southwest Georgia. I left for five years to go to college at the University of Georgia and I loved it! I started REALLY cooking when I moved off campus my 4th year and had my own kitchen!! Well, I still had to share it with three other girls, but at least it wasn't down the hall and up the stairs like in the dorm. I moved back to my hometown and have most recently been living with my boyfriend and cooking for him. Since January, he's gone from a size 36 to a 32! I am very proud of him and like to think that it's because of my cooking! ha!
My favorite things to cook
My boyfriend, Ian, and I really enjoy getting outside and grilling. My specialty is apparently chicken, whether it's just marinating it for salads later or throwing together a BBQ sauce. I don't like to fry, but I love making my own wings. Ian grills them, I fry them, and they are both really good! My current project is creating a great salsa.. but everytime I make some they seem so different! So it's a project for consistency..
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday, but not for the food so much. I have a huge family and everybody makes a point of getting together for lunch. We've outgrown anybody's house, so now we reserve an area at the local state park! As far as cooking traditions, my Mawmaw makes the best-ever spaghetti casserole. It's pretty much the only thing the woman will cook! She won't give me the recipe yet..
My cooking triumphs
My salsa so far has gotten some good reviews from family. Two of my aunts always ask for me to make them a batch or two when they come to town. I just refill the container that they bring back from last time! Also, Ian says I am a great cook! And to me, that's better than awards or anything like that.
My cooking tragedies
Well, anything I've considered a "project" has had a few disasters along the way. Wings were my first project when I moved home.
