About this Cook
I'm a young woman living/working in the nation's capital! I'm originally from a small town, and grew up around great food. My whole family is made up of wonderful cooks. I learned a lot from them, but it's much different cooking by myself!
My favorite things to cook
Southern/down home food, cornbread, chili, spinach, chicken, salads, stir fry, Italian and Mexican dishes
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite summertime meal is one fresh from my family's farm. This would be whole green onions, ice box pickles, sliced tomatoes, fried okra, fried squash, and pork chops, and cold watermelon for dessert.
My cooking triumphs
I make a mean, semi-homemade cherry chocolate cake.
My cooking tragedies
Frozen Pizza! I'm a young career woman, and tend to work late hours. I'm always looking for something quick and easy, and thought I would try frozen pizza. The cardboard circle stuck to the bottom and I forget to remove it. It burned and smelled so bad! My apartment smelled like burnt cardboard for days. I guess that just means I need to cook real food, and not eat frozen pizzas!

Eggless Peanut Butter Cookies
YUMMY! These turned out really well! I even added chocolate chips. I was having a major pb/choc craving and was out of eggs so I made this. Try it! You won't be dissappointed!

Microwave Caramel Popcorn
This is wonderful! It really only takes 15 minutes, and that includes popping time! I'm sitting here eating this right now and it's so good! I used 1 bag of popcorn (all I had) and the whole caramel recipe. There was a bit of caramel in the bottom of my bowl, but not much. My popcorn was evenly, heavily coated. I like it really sweet! I also used a bowl with a lid instead of a bag. It worked really well. Thanks for posting!

Spinach Dip with Water Chestnuts
This is the best dip ever! The water chesnuts give it an amazing crunch! It's been a family favorite for years and my mother always makes it at our Christmas Eve party! I love it with rippled potato chips. It's even good as a spread on sandwiches and wraps. I make it when I need a taste of home!
