About this Cook
My name is Sarah, and I was born and raised in Texas. I am currently enrolled in high school and will be a graduate of the class of 2010. I enjoy many simple things in life, one of the major things being my boyfriend. Yes, I do sound pretty much like a typical teenager, but I don't know what I do without him. We've been together for a year, and life is going pretty perfect for me right now. :-)
My favorite things to cook
I like recipes that seem complicated but aren't all that much when you experiment with them after a while. It's so fun to surprise yourself and make something great!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Cajun grandmother was the one that really inspired me to make food that tasted good and hearty, even if it meant dealing with ingredients that some might not find to sound too appetizing.
My cooking triumphs
For my boyfriend's birthday, I made him lasagna. It was the first time I'd ever made it. It was so delicious, he was surprised that it didn't come from a package or a restaurant. More to the point, he was shocked it was the first time I'd ever made. It was one of the proudest days of my life.
My cooking tragedies
I remember my boyfriend and I wanted to make lasagna for dinner one day. Even though it was from a package and not home-made (first time we didn't make it!), it was a complete disaster. I was pulling it out of the oven, and all of a sudden the aluminum container that the lasagna was in started to fold. It all seemed to happen in slow motion, and before I knew it, the lasagna was all over the kitchen--marinara sauce dripping from the counters, ricotta cheese splattered here and there... I couldn't believe the mess I had caused. I started to cry, and my boyfriend was scared that I was hurt. He didn't care in the least about the mess, only about if I were burned or not. I couldn't believe how considerate he was. After he told me to leave the kitchen, he cleaned the whole thing up all by himself. Even though I was embarrassed for myself and the complete disaster I had caused, it was one of the most memorable (and worthy) memories between me and my boyfriend.
