About this Cook
Ed has been a professional cook for 8 years. He's worked at a variety of restaurants (Asian, Italian, American, Hispanic, you name it!) He's great with the grill! Arissa cooks mostly at home for family and friends. She spent many summer and winter vacations from school with her grandmothers, baking pies and cookies as a child.
My favorite things to cook
Ed loves broiling and grilling, and making pasta. Arissa loves making roasts, casseroles, and desserts. We both have a mutual love for all things pork. Maybe that's why we like watching No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain! (We also enjoyed the movie No Reservations, as well)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Arissa used to pick blackberries and strawberries on her grandparents' farm, carrying them in her shirt back to the house. She then helped make jams and pies with them (and ate alot in the making!) Her grandma Volk made the best pot roast, and her goal is to perfect it, with it's tender beef that falls apart and golden-brown potatoes. Ed is originally from Mexico, and learned some great scratch recipes from his grandmother as well for traditional Mexican dishes.
My cooking triumphs
Pretty much nearly every pork dish imaginable. Mashed potatoes and home made Mac n' Cheese. Yum! Arissa has baked so many cookies in her lifetime, she's become the cookie monster. White chocolate Creme Brulee. Cakes from scratch (with icing from scratch) Ed makes awesome fried rice!
My cooking tragedies
Learning cornstarch only works if the sauce is already hot. Arissa learned to decorate cakes from her mother, but has yet to frost a cake without getting crumbs all over! We have the best Indian restaurants in Cincinnati. We've been trying for years to perfect a mild Chicken Makhani like they can. We've made acceptable versions, but they come nothing close to our favorite Indian restaurant.

Pavlova Deluxe
This is exactly the recipe I was looking for. The texture is perfect! This also worked out great substituting Splenda for the sugar in both the cake and the whipped cream.

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie
This is an excellent recipe, much easier than the Lemon Meringue Pie III! Instead of juicing the lemons myself, I used the contents of one whole lemon-shaped squeeze bottle of lemon juice. I also replaced the sugar with Splenda and it turned out great! Since this pie was going to sit out for a while, I added 1/2 tsp of vinegar and cream of tartar to the meringue and a packet of unflavored gelatin to the lemon custard. Yum!
