IF ONLY ALL I DID WAS COOK....life would be beautiful!

This is my secret fantasy....me in the kitchen , cooking creating, serving friends..and having someone always clean up. I could do this and very little else and be perfectly happy. But no, life has to have other annoying realities that scream for our attention. Such was our demise on this beautiful sunny 68 degree day. Fearing it was the last nice weekend I dragged my wonderful husband into the abyss we know as our garage...oh my goodness, so much stuff! Where does it all come from? It didn't help that I had been over at Amy's the day before and felt I could eat off her garage floor and that my other friends...yes, all of them, have similar garage utopias. Ok, can I blame it on the fact that we downsized from a large to not so large home?, from a massive basement to half a basement?..how about the fact that 2 of my 3 children have had apartments and then have returned home a few times, each time leaving behind another broken chair...oh, I could go on and on but one thing became clear early this morning...we HAD to give up dreams of cooking and dreams of spending the beautiful day hiking and tackle that garage!
Two hours into our plan, it became evident that this is more than 2 people can humanly do in a few hours. We did manage to fill our Sequoia with lots of stuff for Good Will and fill many garbage bins. It also became clear that we needed a storage system, so this became a good excuse to get out of the garage, deliver our Good Will stuff and drive through Chick Fillet. After almost giving my husband a breakdown navigating through the crowds and the impossible floor map of Ikea, we ended up at Lowe's and bought 2 large shelving units with doors. I immediately claimed them for all of my extra cooking items that don't fit into my kitchen since I reorganized that!....this of course doesn't solve our problem for what to do with all the other garage stuff, but hey, it's a beginning. I can at least find my way to my back door through the garage and someone is coming to pick up my 18 year old GE refrigerator that normally holds 3 bottles of ice tea when the kids are away at school.
Tomorrow's another day and maybe we'll make a further dent in the abyss. Just so you don't think me a total chaotic mess....the rest of my house is lovely....OK, sometimes the laundry gets behind.
