Active in my church; former teacher. Married to a husband who cooks.
My favorite things to cook
Stews, soups, fricassees, and bean dishes; omelets and frittatas; sandwiches and picnic food; vegetables. I love my bread machine and my slow cooker. My husband comes from a Mediterranean background, and excels at cooking seafood and all kinds of dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Chicken and dumplings; navy beans and ham with Southern-style corn bread; sour cherry pie with a delicate buttery crust; nice tart apple pie or dumpling; baked beans, red potato salad, and burgers, eaten outdoors; my mom's Christmas bread stuffing, from an old New York Times cookbook.
My cooking triumphs
For my best friend's birthday, my husband and I made an elaborate cake, a German Schwarzwaelder Kirschtorte. We also had grilled lamb kebabs, but the cake was the sensation. It served a dozen hungry people. I've rested on my baking laurels ever since.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to name.
