About this Cook
My name is Amanda and I'm 23 years old. I recently married the man of my dreams on Feb. 28, 2009. I'm not a good or bad cook...I'm still learning a lot...especially since my husband is a VERY picky eater! He's a typical man who loves his hamburgers and pizza but obviously, can't eat that everyday! I like to experiment when I cook sometimes. I work full time and my job is an hour away from home so I don't have much time to cook. Not to mention, my husband sometimes doesn't get home until 10:30 pm so it's hard to cook us something light and healthy that late.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake!!! I would say that baking is what I'm best at, when it comes to cooking. Simple things are great but sometimes I like to challenge myself and try new things.
My favorite family cooking traditions
As long as I can remember, I have helped my mother and grandmother cook. It was a big thing to me as a kid to be able to help them...made me feel like a big kid. Now days, I love to ask them or watch them cook because I still have so much to learn and who best to learn from than them?
My cooking triumphs
The first time I made a Pineapple Upside Down Cake....everyone was blown away and made me feel really good about myself. Also, about two years ago, my parents went out of town so I made baked chicken the way my mother taught me...only I added a few things here and there. My brother is also a picky eater and he does not compliment my food....that night he told me it was the best baked chicken he had ever had...better than mom's!!!
My cooking tragedies
For some reason when I cook any kind of meat, I become very paranoid. I'm so afraid the meat will not be cooked all the way and get us sick. However, if someone else is cooking it, I don't worry at all....just when I have to cook the meat! I have been known to grill my steak and chicken way too long.
