My name is Jamie. I am Greek, so I really love trying out easy Greek recipes. I love chicken and potatoes with Greek spices and flavors, such as garlic powder, oregano, lemon juice, Feta cheese, and olive oil. I am not a gourmet cook by any means, but I do like to try out new recipes.
My favorite things to cook
Greek chicken and potatoes; chili; soups; homemade spaghetti sauce; meatloaf; roast and potatoes in the crock pot; desserts, etc. I also love to grill out in the summer, and use my crock pot in the winter!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love special Greek foods that my mother-in-law and aunt make for certain holidays. Vasilopita (Greek New Year's Bread) is great. I also love Mageritsa (Easter lamb soup). We color our Easter eggs red to stand for the blood of Jesus. My mother makes her wonderful Avgoulemonuo soup (lemon chicken rice soup) every Christmas, along with her delicious Spanakopita (spinach and feta cheese pies). Some of my husband's aunts make wonderful Halva cake (honey cake), and Greek cookies, such as kaloudia and powder sugar cookies. I also love keftedas (Greek-style meatballs), doumathes (grape leaves), and tilopita (cheese pita) any time of the year!
My cooking triumphs
Not many! As long as my family enjoys my cooking, I am happy! I did win first prize in home-ec class in 7th grade with a few of my friends for a cake we made!:)
My cooking tragedies
Not too many, luckily. The worse one was a low-fat recipe for beef stroganoff. My husband will never let me live that one down!
