My favorite things to cook
Everything. I'm always looking through new recipes, changing old ones, or just remaking old standbys. I love to bake and have requests from friends and family for recipes or a batch of my cookies. For me, working with food is cathartic.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Any big holiday meals are a must, even if I don't enjoy eating half of it (like mashed potatoes and roasts). The hustle and anticipation of big family dinners always gets me excited. Some of the best meals have been with my father (whose specialty is spaghetti bolognese and that's pretty much it). Whenever my mother's not home, we each get our own meat and create a whole feast together. It lets us bond and we get a great meal out of it.
My cooking triumphs
The story goes that when I was two, I made some strange concoction out of pretty much everything I could find in the fridge, decorated it with those little plastic animals and trees you get on a bouche noel and thought I was amazing. It hasn't stopped since.
My cooking tragedies
An angel food cake for my mother's birthday. For some odd reason only part of it rose even though I've made it so many times without that problem.
