I have been married for 7 years now and we have 4 kids, 1 girl she is 6, and 3 boys, 5, 3 and 6 mos. I am a stay at home mom, and I love to cook. I started teaching my kids how to cook when they were 2 years old. They love to cook just as much as I do but I think their favorite part is licking the bowl after making a cake or brownies. I have been cooking since I was 5 years old but really got into it when I was 12. It is a great way for me to relax and I know that as long as I cook the food I can control the foods that my family eats.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook is a recipe my grandma gave me before she passed away. It is a chicken recipe that isnt very healthy because it is mostly cheese but it is one of the best things I have ever tasted and everyone I have made it for loves it. Everytime I make it reminds me of when I was about 8 years old standing next to her in the kitchen and having her tell me how to make it. Its almost like I am cooking with her again and I loved cooking with her. I will cook just about anything but this is my favorite thing to cook and its not that difficult to make.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family didnt have any cooking traditions but I am changing that for me and my kids. Everyday while my older 2 are at school and the baby is sleeping my 3 year old and I go and make cookies or something and then after school all 3 of them help me make dinner. Me and the kids get the table set and when their daddy gets home from work we all sit down at the table and while we are eating the kids tell us all about their day at school, it is one of the highlights of my day. I never did this with my parents and I wanted to change that with my children so I made it a rule in the house that no matter how tired we are we will all sit around the dinner table every night and eat as a family and discuss our day.
My cooking triumphs
Last Christmas my husband wanted to give baskets of homemade desserts to everyone he works with, he is a landscaper and so their were 27 employees and he asked me to make all the desserts, wrap them and arrange them into baskets for everyone. He wanted 3 different types of cookies, a tray of brownies and a couple different chocolate candies in each basket. I found all the recipes for the things he wanted and then started making them, it took me about a week and I baked from morning til I went to bed. I got all of them done in time for him to pass out at work for Christmas presents, everyone sent back thank you cards and said everything was absolutly delicious. I was so worried that with making all of that I would have screwed something up but from what everyone said it was all great. They also suggested i open a bakery.
My cooking tragedies
About 3 1/2 years ago I was making dinner and my older 2 were playing, I had pork chops cooking in a frying pan and my kids started fighting. I went back their to see what was going on and while i was dealing with them the pork chops started burning and the entire apartment was filled with smoke, me and the kids were coughing really bad, the alarm was going off, I opened all the windows and put the pan in the sink with water, but I guess it wasnt enough to clear out the smoke because the alarm wouldnt stop and the fire department showed up. I was humiliated because while they were searching to make sure it was safe my husband came home from work and was laughing his butt off.
