About this Cook
I have always had a passion for cooking. As long as I have my favourite sharp knife, I am willing to try anything...at least twice (re-try in case the first time was a flop)!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Jiggs Dinner: A traditional dish from Newfoundland that is usually made on Sundays and Holidays. The meal typically consists of a combination of pickled salt beef (or salt riblets), boiled potatoes, carrots, cabbage, turnip, turnip greens, bread pudding, dressing, pease pudding, Yorkshire pudding, and a cooked turkey, chicken or beef roast. Condiments sometimes include mustard pickles, pickled beets, cranberry sauce and butter. The leftover vegetables from Jiggs dinner are often mixed into a pan and fried to make a dish known as "cabbage hash" or "corned beef and cabbage hash."
My cooking tragedies
oh boy. There isn't enough room here. But I believe that every good cook will have their fair share of tragedies before they are triumphant!

Butter Chickpea Curry
This is a nice, mild curry, which was perfect for the kiddies. I prefer a bolder, spicier curry, but this recipes can be easily modified to ones own tastes. Next time, I will use diced tomatoes, tomato paste instead of the soup (I think the soup made it a bit sweeter than I prefer). I also used coconut milk, which added to the yummy-ness! One question though...if it's called "Butter Chickepea Curry"...where is the BUTTER?? Thanks for sharing.

Melt - In - Your - Mouth Shortbread
Oh my, are these good. And really easy to make. I didn't change a thing and these cookies turned out JUST the way I wanted. If using a convection oven, cut the time down to about 7-8 minutes SO good. Thanks for sharing

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips
YUM! And super addictive. I used the recipe as a guideline but took the advice of others to cut the sugar down. I used 1/4 cup of sugar TOTAL as the preserve has plenty of it. A tip for the chips: Be sure to coat the tortillas entirely with the cinnamon sugar for an even yummier chip. I found it time consuming to bake the tortillas (laying the triangles in a single layer to bake) but worth the wait in the end.
