About this Cook
I am an apprentice cook. I completed my first year of culinary, but decided to be a stay at home mom for the time being. I hated working as a cook in a restaurant, it doesn't give you any room for creativity. When your cooking the worst feeling is being rushed. I love cooking for other people, it gives you a great feeling of satisfaction! My daughter is 18 months old, and is very picky eater. Having a picky toddler for a cook is a curse! She doesn't like anything I make hahaha. She rather eat hot dogs, KD, or cookies. It's hard to get her to eat healthy so I'm always trying new ways to "fool" her into eating healthier. My fiance on the other hand will eat anything I put in front of him. He is also a cook. We are getting married July 4th, 2009. We both enjoy cooking, but he does not take instruction well and never follows recipes.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking anything! Cakes are obviously my favorite. But I love to make any pastry. Im a huge fan of "on a budget" meals and quick and easy, since I'm always on the go and looking for ways to save money. Recipes I can do ahead of time are a blessing with having a toddler always needing my attention. Gourmet pizzas, lasagna, manacotti, tacos, spaghetti, shepherds pie.. are a few of my favorite quick easy or do it ahead of time recipes. I am always looking for my recipes or twists to recipes to add to my collection!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday cooking is shared by everyone in my family, even the little hands get involved in some way. I always make cheesecake for every holiday dinner because its such an adaptable dessert (ex. pumpkin cheesecake for thanksgiving.) Every Christmas I make dessert trays for everyone as a gift also, huge hit!
My cooking triumphs
I can make just about anything, and I can twist any recipe to the way I'd like it better. My greatest triumph in the kitchen is being able to make any kind of pastry with ease, especially cakes. I love wedding cakes.
My cooking tragedies
I am a klutz, being clumsy is not an asset in the kitchen! I'm most famous for burning things.
