I come from a large family and I love cooking for them. I am the second eldest of seven kids, I am married for 18 years with two boys of my own.
My favorite things to cook
I am best with anything fattening and home style whether it be a main dish or dessert. I am a comfort food cook.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am most like my Grandma Swainey who goes all out on family get togethers, one main dish is not enough, oodles of side dishes and desserts out the wahoo, that is the way we love it, I try to make something for everyone, and something new to try out as well. So our family tradition is lots of food and I am carrying it on with love.
My cooking triumphs
Making a cake from scratch, my own creation for my dad on his birthday. A cashew butter cake with brown butter frosting, he loved it! I got the inspiration for it from my grandma's cashew crunchy cookie recipe, which is also one of his favorite cookies, and was so thrilled that it worked out.
My cooking tragedies
When I was about 8 years old, I made my first batch of chocolate chip cookies, which were hard as a rock....I have never made a bad batch since, thank goodness. Also when we were first married I made my husband porcupine balls, which he thought would taste like Italian meatballs, wrong!! So after one bite he spits it out, broke my heart, it wasn't that they weren't good, just not what he expected, but it just crushed me, at least it hasn't ever happened again!
