I am a married mother of 2 beautiful daughters 8 and 1 1/2 years old. My husband is from Mexico, so I really enjoy cooking Mexican dishes and trying out new things, using my family as guinea pigs!
My favorite things to cook
Anything Mexican and Southern. Refried beans, tostadas, empanadas, soups, stews, fried chicken, meatloaf, desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Getting together with my mom and sister and sister-in-law and making the Thanksgiving and/or Christmas menu. My mom doles out the responsibilities, and for some reason, I always end up making the desserts! I think its because my sister is better at meats and veggies and my sister-in-law is better at...well...not much, but she tries...
My cooking triumphs
The first time i made a Thanksgiving dinner by myself. I made everything: the turkey, the stuffing, the potatoes, all the other things, and the desserts. It was really hard work but very rewarding to see everyone eating and really enjoying the food. I think next time i will plan a little farther ahead since i did everything in 1 day. This year, I will start the day before chopping and dicing and pre-measuring all my dry ingredients.
My cooking tragedies
The first and only time i made tamales. They were horrible! I put too much masa (which is the dough like substance) and too little meat. They turned out so terrible, and there I was, stuck with 50 tamales that noone would touch!
