About this Cook
I often dream of floating around effortlessly in a stainless steel kitchen complete with two built-in ovens, a dishwasher, more storage I could ever use and one of those goose-neck pull-down sprayer/ faucets, but alas, it isn't so. I have come to appreciate the back door in my real-life apartment kitchen, though, particularly when something goes terribly wrong in the oven.
My favorite things to cook
Is brewing coffee cooking? The French press, espresso machine and auto-drip hang out with the grinder on my counter top. They play Poker while I'm at work. Coffee=essential. Baking is preferred for its rewarding potential. I love how 'strange-looking-slop' magically transforms to 'delectable-baked-goods' in the oven... science creating art.
My cooking triumphs
I tried the 'World's Best Lasagna' (recipe from this site) for Pete one night. Having him say it was even better than his Italian grandma's lasagna was truly triumphant (and I agree, it's an amazing recipe). On the smugger side: meringue... yawn.
My cooking tragedies
Years ago, with zero cooking skills, I craved & ultimately attempted Dad's Bacon & Swiss Quiche. From what I remember, I used a purchased shortbread pie shell (not knowing the difference), microwaveable bacon & fat-free miracle whip. It was rather embarrassing. Thankfully, I was the only one who had to suffer through it. sigh. Sometimes I forget muffins in the oven too. It could be because I subconsciously hate muffins.

Ultimate Irresistible Granola
Expected granola goodness; what I got was granola greatness. Made a half batch adding a tsp of cinnamon and omitting fruit (not always in a fruit mood)... I intend to have this for breakfast, but the ice cream is begging to be covered in it - I shall do both! P.S. Bake with kitchen window ajar, neighborhood cats will swarm...

Sunrise Squares
Quite enjoyable; quite easy. Used maple sugar sausage in the second batch (preferred) and thought the red pepper was crucial to flavor (more so than the green). Not sure, but I think this is actually better zapped the next day.
