I was a widowed teacher from California who married a widower from Washington state in 2004. A year later we moved to Wisconsin and bought a dairy farm. We currently milk about 50 Jerseys and raise their calves and heifers. It is a nice lifestyle. Since the farm keeps us so tied down, we are thrilled when our out-of-state children and grandchildren visit. In fact, we are fortunate to be the "vacation destination" for our friends and family from California, Washington and Michigan. We have lots of company from June-September every year. That means lots of cooking! This year (2008) I am excited to begin substitute teaching at a nearby elementary school. Life here in Wisconsin is busy, but good, as we live our dream!
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE to bake...but try not to have too many goodies around since our children are grown--unless we have lots of company to help eat it! Lasagna is as much fun to make as it is to EAT!!!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a long line of women who loved trying out new recipes. My earliest memories were reading recipes aloud to my blind grandma. She loved to hear the recipes and imagine how they would turn out. It was probably her favorite activity. I am always on the look-out for new meals to make. Due to our busy milking schedule, however, I prefer quick and easy dishes these days.
My cooking triumphs
Lots and lots of triumphs...
My cooking tragedies
And just as many tragedies!
