Land of Nod Cinnamon Buns

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
they were okay. Maybe I did something wrong. They came out HUGE and half the filling fell to the bottom of the oven. They weren't gooey like I expected either. Will possibly try again with fewer rolls and melt the sugar and butter together.

Blueberry Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2009
I was given a torpedo sized zuke and a half bucket of blueberries on the same day. Found this recipe with it's rave reviews and just had to try it. I did it exactly as written except I put it into two regular sized bread pans and I think I probably added more berries because I didn't actually measure them! It turned out really good! My husband and kids like it too but I suspect he'll be the one to eat the whole thing. Next time I will try it with the crumble topping and maybe some nuts in the mix and see what happens. Oh, and mine stuck to the pan evne though I buttered it liberally.

Chicken Breasts with Balsamic Vinegar and Garlic

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
I must have done something wrong because I found the chicken dry and the sauce a bit disappointing. That said, everyone ate it without complaints.

Baked Macaroni and Cheese I

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2009
While this doesn't knock my socks off every time I ALWAYS get rave reviews from husband and children. I pretty much stick to the recipe but often add peas to it to get some 'green' in there. I also sometimes crumble potato chips on top or seasoned bread crumbs for a bit of crunch.

Easy Fruit Cobbler

Due to time constraints I just made this exactly to recipe, except I used frozen mixed berries and cherries. It turned out quite good and I will make it again, but will sprinkle sugar on top like it's been suggested. Nice one!

Roasted Garlic Cauliflower

normally I hate cauliflower, it's the smell of it when cooked, it's awful! Anyway, THIS was really good and will certainly keep the vampires away with all the garlic.

Grilled Marinated Shrimp

Used the marinade as a sauce over pasta, a bit on the garlicky side but really YUM!

Cherry-Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2009
This turned out really good. I only used blueberries but it was still perfect. Next time I'll make my own pastry though. I baked it at 425 for 15 minutes then turned down to 350 for about 45 minutes. Golden and crispy!

Maple Salmon

I made this according to the recipe plus a bit of grated ginger. Everyone seemed to like it from age 1 to 40! Asked my picky husband what he rates it out of five stars, and he said a firm four. So, there you go.

Tasty Lentil Tacos

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
This was quite good. Made it as the recipe instructed and it was too spicy for my 1 and 5 year olds, but my husband and I enjoyed it on nacho chips (no tacos in the house).

Winter Fruit Salad with Lemon Poppyseed Dressing

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2009
I made this recipe for our late christmas dinner. I didn't alter anything other than using Edam instead of swiss. The results were good, if a bit bland. I like that the dressing isn't vineagery.

Sky High Yorkshire Pudding

My oven caught on fire on Christmas Eve, need I say more? I tried this again on June 13, again, a failure. An inch high and I followed the recipe to the letter and took the advice of many reviewers. I give up!!

Sugar Cookie Icing

very forgiving icing and worked a treat. I flavoured it with lemon extract which gave a nice offset to the sweetness of sugar cookies. Nice one!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2008
By now I should know that anything that says 'best ever' never is when I make it! These cookies, with a zillion rave reviews, I thought were a sure thing. They taste fine but go flat when baked, not holding their shape nicely. Now, I may have done something wrong as I halved the recipe and made them into 'stained glass cookies' with a lifesaver melted in the middle. But you can hardly see the 'window' because the cookie flattened and spread so much. Oh well, the kids won't care!!

Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2008
Being a very lazy cook I just cooked the chicken right in the sauce in a pyrex dish on the stove top. It turned out really good and the whole family ate it, even the one year old. I would cut the chicken into smaller pieces so the sauce sinks in a bit more. Very good!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2008
I admit I just looked at the rating and amount of reviews and just made the cookie exactly like the recipe (except for adding pecan nuts). They came out flattish, not very chewy (hubby likes that, as he loves crunchy cookies) and too sweet. Nevertheless they won't go to waste in this house!

Dee's Health Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
This was my very first attempt, ever, at baking bread. I halved the recipe because I didn't want to screw up a WHOLE batch. Because of the distraction of two small children things were risen longer than stated and kneaded less time than stated but the end result, while not high and fluffy like store bought breads is pretty darn good!! I will definately make this again and add more seeds, we love seedy breads.

Pleasant Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
I am not a fan of pork chops so in desperation I went searching for a recipe that would help them go down a bit easier. I chose this one mainly because it looked easy and I had the ingredients. It was REALLY good! Very nice gravy and even my 4 year old ate it. I'd definately cook it again.
