About this Cook
Parents: Cheri L King-Jimenez & Bill R Jimenez. Currently as I put this book together, I am 48 years old. I reside in Lexington SC and my current occupation is education. I have always loved to cook. I remember as a youngster cooking dinners a couple nights a week as I got familiar with the kitchen and learned how important it was to follow exactly what the recipe asked for. I would make sure to always cook two of my father's favorite dishes during the week which was Chicken and Dumplings over dropped biscuits (his fav) and pot roast with potatoes, carrots and making sure their was the gravy and of course the dropped biscuits. I would cook anything! Remember mom and dad, the greek dinner Musaka (w/lamb) I cooked one night everyone tried to swallow? Everyone was so gracious, and we all know I would never cooked that meal again. I appreciated the fact everyone in the family allowed me to experiment with cooking and through this, we came to find some family favorites!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook recipes brought down from the family. I love to revamp recipes if some were not up to my taste buds and found by experimenting like this, I came up with some tastier meals. I love to cook Italian, Mexican, chinese, healthy, breads, desserts, just about anything.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The ultimate was Gramma Ruby's home made tamales. This was a New Years tradition where the family would get together in Gramma's kitchen to learn how she made this dish from scratch to bring this dish into our own kitchens. It was an all day affair filling the kitchen air with authentic smells of this trandition of family value. An assembly line of family members all participating in the creation of tamales. We could not wait to eat them!
My cooking triumphs
One dish I especially messed with for quite sometime until my taste buds felt it was just right was my home made chili. I have entered this recipe in my first chili contest and actually won second place! I am sure if I re-entered again, I would win first place!
My cooking tragedies
That god awlful Greek Musaka dinner which I mentioned in my bio. I wanted to please everyone and felt since this was my first attempt at a foreign dish, I could impress everyone. Thank god I am not Greek and either is the family. I probably would have been abandoned after that!
